Job Summary Provide service and support to internal and external customers, contractors and attorneys throughout NiSource territories, related to facility damage investigation and miscellaneous revenue accounting billing executions, collections, data repository rendition and management. Routinely run reports in the Damage Prevention Tracking System (DPTS), relevant to internal and external inquiries. Report and analyze trends, exceptions and opportunities as it relates to damage prevention improvement within the organization. The incumbent must be creative and use knowledge and skills on each individual claim, applying appropriate analysis, evaluation and investigative techniques. Must be detail oriented and able to accurately capture financial data and perform follow up on unpaid facility damage claims.
Essential Functions
- Ensure compliant and accurate review of all damage claim processing.
- Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in billing all 6 states, including the billing of escalated disputes involving coordination of multiple stakeholder inputs.
- Provides training for peers and new hires as needed.
- Serves as SME regarding department responsibilities and processes.
- Develops process documents and guidelines in coordination with leader.
- Identifies and acts upon departmental continuous improvement opportunities in coordination with leader.
- Independently answers peer questions on complicated damages and large outages and escalates issues to DPS Leader only as needed.
- Acts as an informal mentor and coach to peers and as assigned by I&R Leader
- Demonstrates exceptional high performance in the execution of back office damage workload in addition to damage claim duties, i.e. Damage Check-In Process, Journal Entries, Insurance and Legal Cash Processing, Advanced Cognos Navigation and advanced informational problem solving for exceptions.
- Demonstrates superior ability to resolve excavator disputes.
- Serves as departmental liaison with COE S&I and data analysts to provide information regarding damage reconciliation process as needed.
- Provides information for follow up with Operations for WMS and DPTS backlog communications and collaboration.
- Provides ad-hoc data request completion.
- Monitors workload and compliance within department on a regular basis.
- Monthly QA/QC of Facility Damage Coordinator I claims work; addresses minor issues independently with peers and provides formal feedback to Leader on a planned, weekly basis to address significant concerns/issues.
- Demonstrates problem solving technical assistance and support with Field Operations, Field Engineering and Construction Services as needed.
- In the absence of Leader, attends meetings to represent Damage Investigation and Recovery team and provides written summaries post-meeting.
Required Qualifications For Position
- 1-3 years of experience or career equivalent in natural gas distribution operations, billing and collections.
- Proven ability in task completion and multi-tasking.
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills based on NiSource Leadership Expectations.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Ability to lead projects.
- Strong conflict management skills.
- Comfortable handling escalations while maintaining an exceptional level of professionalism and business etiquette.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting facility maps.
- Proficient in knowledge of the gas industry and One Call Center law.
- Excellent, open, decisive communication and comradery with leadership.
- Working knowledge of company systems.
- General gas industry knowledge including understanding of utility construction practices.
- Understanding of regulatory tariffs and similar One Call Center law.
- Knowledge of DIS, WMS, GIS, IRTH computer applications, Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures and state mandates related to facility damage prevention.
- High School Diploma

Salary Range*: $69,900.00 - $105,000.00
*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity. Posting Start Date: 2026-01-07
