DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UC San Diego School of Medicine (SOM) and is responsible for fulfilling its teaching, research, and clinical missions. DOM employs approximately 500 salaried faculty, nearly 200 academic appointees, and more than 300 residents, fellows, and postdocs, supported by almost 1,000 staff members.

UC San Diego Stein Institute for Research on Aging and Center for Healthy Aging, which are dedicated to the development and application of the latest advances in biomedical & behavioral science knowledge to issues of successful, healthy aging and the prevention and reduction of the burden of disability and disease.

The Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Palliative Care aims to optimize the experience of aging and improve care for individuals with serious illness through excellence in clinical care, inspired teaching and transformative research. The Division is ranked 11th out of more than 1,500 national programs in U.S. News & World Report. It also leads the San Diego Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (AD-RCMAR), a partnership between UCSD and SDSU, which aims to enhance the diversity of the aging research workforce by providing mentorship to scientists from underrepresented groups for careers in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD) relevant research. Additionally, the AD-RCMAR fosters research aimed at understanding and addressing risk factors and developing interventions to reduce ADRD disparities and enhance healthy cognitive aging in diverse populations.

The position will manage research databases for large scale, complex, longitudinal clinical studies. The Geriatrics Data Systems Analyst is responsible for database development, curation, and management of complex and moderately complex data acquisition and analysis software supporting research activities of the Stein Institute for Research on Aging and the UCSD Center for Healthy Aging.

Uses solid knowledge in research methods, databases, data collection, data storage, data transfer, and data analysis to provide data management and data quality assurance. Continually re-evaluates technical needs for new developments to support evolving data management needs of research projects.

Assists with statistical analyses including preparation of analytical files with supporting documentation for specific research initiatives, preparation of logical data models, dimensional data models and schemas, and running preliminary analyses for researchers and presenting results.

Applies data / information management concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP methodologies, policies and procedures to resolve a variety of data / information management issues. Works on data / information management problems of moderate scope and complexity where analyses of situations or data require a review of a variety of factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Experience with and knowledge in performing data management and planning of metadata acquisition for sets of unstructured data objects of actigraphy and bright light therapy recordings.

  • Ability to program Access databases using SQL and VBA.

  • Ability to build predictive models and machine learning algorithms to enhance decision-making processes.

  • Knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards.

  • Knowledge relating to logical data design, data warehouse design, data integration or the management of web content or other unstructured data.

  • Familiarity with important types of data models such as logical / relational models, dimensional models and document models.

  • Ability to prepare simple data models under guidance of more senior professionals.

  • Intermediate knowledge of relevant rules and regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $71,600 - $127,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.29 - $61.02

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
