THE POSITION

The Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) is seeking a detail-oriented team member who enjoys research and analysis within a supportive, goal-focused office environment. As a Fire Services Education Specialist, your role will involve teaching, supporting learners, and ensuring consistency in multi-platform training. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Fire Services Education Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the training and education of individuals in the fire and emergency services field. Your responsibilities will include planning, developing, coordinating, and administering various training programs for PSFA. You will deliver training, provide ongoing support, and ensure consistent quality across all platforms. In addition, you will be involved in curriculum research and development, as well as providing feedback to improve course content and instructional methods. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the preparedness and effectiveness of fire and emergency services personnel in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • During emergencies, disasters, or training exercises, you may be required to travel and work extended shifts (up to 12 hours) outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time upon successful completion of a training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • 400 hours of experience providing instruction as a Fire Academy Instructor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional experience in developing and delivering fire and emergency service training programs, and a bachelor's degree in fire science, public safety, adult education, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a Fire Service Instructor 2 certification issued by a professional certification agency accredited in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association, the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, or other professional certification agency accredited in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association.
