Mental Health Professional - School-Based - Decatur, Illinois

Salary: Range based on education, experience, and licensure or certification

  • High School or GED + 5 years' experience: $23.00/hour + every other Friday paid off
  • Bachelor's Degree: $25.00/hour + every other Friday paid off
  • Master's Degree: $60,000/annually + every other Friday paid off

Additional Pay Enhancements for Professional Certification or Licensure

  • CADC Up to $2/hour
  • CRSS or CFPP: $47,840/annually
  • LSW or LPC: $64,000/annually
  • LCSW, LCPC, LFMT: $67,000/annually

Schedule: Full-Time | Every other Friday off (paid wellness day)

Flexibility: 10-month or 12-month positions

Your Role:

Mental Health Professional - School-Based - Decatur, IL and/or Macon County

As a School-Based Mental Health Professional at Heritage Behavioral Health Center in Decatur, Illinois, you will provide therapeutic and supportive services to children and adolescents with mental health diagnoses in school settings across Macon County. This community-based role focuses on early intervention, skill-building, and collaboration with educators and families to promote emotional well-being, academic success, and resilience. You will serve as a trusted resource within schools, helping students navigate challenges and access care in a safe, supportive environment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individual counseling services to students in school settings.
  • Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with families and school staff.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when needed.
  • Coordinate care with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to ensure integrated support.
  • Educate school personnel on mental health topics and strategies for supporting students.
  • Engage families in treatment planning and provide psychoeducation to strengthen home-school connections.
  • Document services accurately and timely in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Advocate for students' needs and promote a positive, inclusive school climate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to collaborative problem-solving.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Child and adolescent development, mental health diagnoses, and evidence-based interventions.
  • School systems, educational policies, and family engagement strategies.
  • Trauma-informed care and culturally responsive practices.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with youth, families, and school staff.
  • Ability to conduct assessments and implement therapeutic interventions effectively.
  • Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
  • Organizational skills for managing caseloads and documentation requirements.

Abilities:

  • Work independently in school settings while maintaining accountability.
  • Adapt to diverse student needs and dynamic school environments.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 5 years of supervised mental health or social service experience
  • Bachelor's degree in human service field
  • Graduate degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or other human service fields
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • A valid driver's license, reliable means of transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.
