Overview
Under the direction of a physician and under the supervision of a supervisor, coordinator, and/or designee, the Respiratory Therapy Student provides patient care as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The Respiratory Therapy Student provides simple and intermediate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as per scope of practice and by utilizing department protocols, and standards of practice. Exemplifies the Mercyhealth mission, vision and values, and acts in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. They will perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors, assesses, educates, and documents the patient and/or family on therapies, medications, goals of
Assesses patients clinically before and after the administration or application of any medication, procedure, or device. Immediately reports any recommendations for change in therapy or adverse reactions following established mechanisms.
Responds to emergent situations in the hospital and assists with CPR by providing compressions, ventilation, and airway management In accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support guidelines and as directed by the Code Team Leader.
Demonstrates competence in the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and maintenance of equipment and stocking of departmental supplies
Provides developmentally appropriate care to support patients of all ages during their hospitalization. Demonstrates competence in the care of pediatric, adult patients (when/if assigned to these patients) relative to determining each patient's age related and other physical, psycho-social, and cultural needs.
Seeks to improve performance by participating in self-development activities, in-services, and continuing education that is appropriate for the effective and efficient delivery of respiratory care services.
Student enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Care Program and successfully completed floor care modalities or a graduate from an accredited Respiratory Care Program with license/ certification pending.
Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.
Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
