DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the OMCP Assistant Director of Communications is responsible for strategically articulating the OMCP vision, mission and goals through the look, feel and content for diverse audiences and campus partners. The incumbent is responsible for the development of the VC OMCP communication programs which include but are not limited to written, visual, digital and electronic communications. The Assistant Director of Communications determines and recommends the best communication methodologies in which to reach the various campus audiences on important campus initiatives led by OMCP, implements these methodologies, and assesses their effectiveness. This position is responsible for developing strategic communications plans for OMCP and creating proactive and comprehensive internal communications that supports the unit's goals. Works with University Communications on media requests as needed.

The incumbent interfaces with members of the campus community from all levels of the university and acts as a lead communication specialist for VC OMCP. Management of these critical communications efforts ensures accurate and fair representation of the division.

This position has a dotted reporting line to University Communications to ensure accuracy with university messaging, protocols for managing external media, and brand adherence.

QUALIFICATIONS

*Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Demonstrated ability knowledge of all aspects of communication to design and implement comprehensive communications plans for single events and major programs; this includes assisting with defining goals, identifying target audiences and creating and implementing action plans and timelines. Knowledge of the practices for effecting marketing communications and branding promotions to support branding messages.

*Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications. Demonstrated experience in providing creative direction for graphic design, printing, website development, mailing, and other project-related functions to effectively produce and distribute marketing and communications materials.

*Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and / or health sciences. Ability stay current with issues, trends and opportunities in OMCP and related units. Knowledge of the practices for effecting marketing communications and branding promotions to support branding messages.

*Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans. Ability to quantify effectiveness of social media strategies; ability to evaluate and advise on effectiveness of social. Knowledge of the practices for effecting marketing communications and branding promotions tosupport branding messages.

*Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences. High level of judgment and skill to understand the actions necessary to ensure constituents receive appropriate information from leadership. Works in collaboration with the University Communications Department.

*Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. Proven ability and working experience in writing copy and editing for accuracy and style. Working knowledge of proper English grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction and effective journalistic style. Ability to write for executive leadership. Ability to write for multiple audiences, particularly student audiences.

*Strong skills in writing and editing brochures, newsletters, news releases, correspondence, and other marketing materials.

*Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in all sensitive matters.

*Demonstrated ability to quantify effectiveness of social media strategies; ability to evaluate and advise on effectiveness of social media. Knowledge of the practices for effecting marketing communications and branding promotions to support branding messages.

*Ability to perform multiple tasks independently; ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet frequently short and multiple deadlines; ability to complete detailed tasks accurately.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
