Residential Director

CTD Academic Summer Camp at Northwestern University

The Residential Director (RD) serves as the lead point of contact for all residential staff, students, and their families. The RD provides the Program Coordinator (PC) with daily updates on staff and student needs and facility emergencies. The RD collaborates with the PC and Academic Director (AD) to ensure that the residential program supports the student experience. The RD supports and directs the work of the Assistant Residential Directors (ARDs) who manage student Health & Housing, Weekday Activities, and Weekend Activities. RDs live in the residence hall for the duration of the program and have rotating on-call responsibilities.

Employment Dates and Compensation

  • Full time work Friday, June 12 - Saturday, August 8, 2026.
  • Stipend: $10,000 gross, plus room and board

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree; master's degree preferred.
  • Significant experience synthesizing multiple sources of information into easy-to-use resources for staff.
  • Proven staff leadership experience in an educational setting; staff management experience in a residential setting preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork.
  • Professional demeanor; motivated, flexible, team-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience identifying and addressing the social-emotional needs of middle school students or adolescents preferred.
  • Must be able to traverse distances of at least one mile with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift and/or maneuver at least 40lbs.
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.

General Responsibilities

  • Learn, uphold, and reinforce CTD Policies and Procedures, including the CTD Honor Code.
  • Ensure implementation of CTD's standard of supervision at all times.

  • Design and deliver training materials for residential staff.

  • Support and supervise Assistant Residential Directors.

  • Provide ongoing supervision of and support to residential staff in order to foster an inclusive, fun, and safe residential community.

  • Communicate with and respond to NU Residential Services personnel to support the residential program.

  • Manage NU facilities and property, including residence halls, hardware, and financial assets.

  • Manage and appropriately document a residential budget according to university policies and procedures.

  • Serve as primary program contact for caregivers of residential students.

  • Create and communicate schedules to CTD staff and students.

  • Read and respond to daily student health and behavior reports.

  • Lead daily residential team meetings.

  • Conduct and document performance remediation conversations with students and staff; follow-up with CTD administrators and parents as needed.

  • Support the development of social-emotional skills among students.

  • Support student health regarding diet and exercise, hygiene, sleep, stress management, and any specific health needs indicated by the family.

  • Evaluate residential and summer program staff performance.

  • Provide support to any CTD program on the Evanston campus, as needed.

  • Be willing to drive Northwestern University-provided minivans across campus and across town.

  • Assume program-related responsibilities as reasonably requested by CTD directors and administrators.
