How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:The Continuing Medical Education (CME) Specialist I ensures that all Carilion and accrediting agency standards for CME programming are met through education materials, policies, practices, training, education, and guides those who develop, conduct, manage, and document CME activities for providers. Supports the maintenance, development and advancement of provider knowledge and ensures licensure requirements are met. The CME Specialist I assures continuing medical education and professional development activities eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM are planned and implemented on principles of adult learning and professional development. Standards and regulations that must be observed and met include, but are not limited to, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) essentials/guidelines for Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education.

The Continuing Medical Education Specialist I

  • Creates policies, procedures, guidance, and education for CME programming that is compliant with Carilion and accrediting agency standards.

  • Trains, advises, guides, and educates internal educational partners throughout Carilion Clinic departments who conduct and support provider CME activities to ensure compliance with standards of activities essential to maintaining the certification and licensure of practicing physicians.

  • Reviews educational offerings to ensure principals of adult learning are incorporated in the offerings.

  • Maintains records of CME hours, credits, and attendance in the learning management system.

  • Supports accreditation processes and reviews for quality improvement, CME offerings align with programmatic and individual goals. Meets organizational budgetary and revenue enhancement goals.

  • Identifies and recommends the use of educational grants and coordinates the resulting activities. Ensures compliance with contracts and customer service agreements.

  • Interacts with physicians, leaders, health care professionals, educational partners, and commercial vendors.


What We Require:

Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in education, nursing or other allied health professions. Relevant education and experience can be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience: 1 year of experience in medical education (e.g. AGCME program assistant, CME Educational Partner) preferred.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration:Certified Healthcare CPD Professional (CHCP) Certification preferred.

Other Minimum Qualifications:Communication skills, organization skills, attention to detail, technical skills. experience with Microsoft Office programs and learning management system. Involves applying advanced knowledge of physician continuing education requirements.
