Job Summary: Provides design and land surveying support, technical guidance, and oversight to engineers and project managers to ensure and validate construction compliance with plans, photogrammetric work, measurements, boundaries, calculations, and codified requirements for public and private sector client projects. Responsibilities involve performing and overseeing research and land surveys on various multi-site/phase construction projects of moderate to larger scale, scope, and/or complexity, including visually mapping/drafting legal boundaries and the potential placement of structures, utilities, and installations. Generates and substantiates accurate illustrations, reports, and documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project(s). Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, uniformity, thoroughness, and legal compliance for survey documents. Job Duties and Responsibilities: * Collect, compile, research, and analyze data from property/utility records, deeds, land/property titles, structural plans, and other matrices for single, multi-phase, or multi-site land surveying activities. * Use survey instruments to perform various types of property surveys on projects of moderate complexity and/or scope, which could include boundary, existing condition, topographic, as-built, subdivision, and profile maps. * Follows standard practices to provide professional survey assistance and guidance to account for and verify the accuracy of survey data, and determines conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, boundaries, and construction specifications. * Acts as consultant regarding survey progress and problem resolution; may serve as the only surveyor on a construction project or assist in overseeing surveyor activities for projects of a moderate/large scope and complexity within a region(s). * Verify measurements, calculations, and boundaries, resolving differences in interpretation of plans and survey specifications; resolving differences in interpretation of plans and specifications. * Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work; occasionally leading tasks and survey staff for survey or field assignments on project work. * Write technical reports summarizing site observation and survey findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using photographs, sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and reports. * Assist technical staff, project managers, and contractors with risk identification and assessment, offering input, analysis, escalation, or resolution for more intricate and involved surveying problems. * Adjust surveying instruments in order to maintain their accuracy. * Provide guidance and training to entry-level survey staff. * Attend pre-construction meetings and answer survey questions from contractors and other attendees. * Engage in contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate survey activities. * Remain current in latest survey knowledge, techniques, and practices. * Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and adhere to professional conduct and KLJ's policies and procedures. * Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications: * High School Diploma. * Associates Degree in Surveying, Geospatial, or closely related discipline is preferred. * Minimum of 10 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior surveying experience with easements, rights of way, plats, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, property descriptions, and GPS surveys. * Essential professional licensure/certification. * Experience with both public and private sector work (e.g. state, city, county, utility districts, and private land development) * Advanced knowledge of land survey principles, practices, process, methods, and techniques. * Advanced knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. * Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions. * Detail-oriented and can adapt to new technology, techniques and processes as industry/clients dictate. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience. * Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment. * Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. * Well-defined knowledge of photogrammetric map compilation, electronic data processing, and drafting principles. * Advanced proficiency with survey equipment (e.g. Leica Robotic Total Station), Auto Cad, Civil 3D, Microstation, and/or Geopak. * Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from calculations, data collation, and survey results to analyze and arrive at the most effective, economical, and logical solution. * Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week. * Travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements. Hours and Travel: This position requires the individual work 40 or more hours per week with 10% of the time spent in the office and 90% in the field.
