Job Summary
Under supervision of the CDXI faculty directors and staff supervisor, this position is responsible for working with departments, staff, and patients using clinical research techniques. This position supports departmental goals through the performance of investigational testing for both research and patient care via the Center for Diagnostic Innovation related to the following specialties: Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Toxicology, Hematology/Hemostasis/Special Coagulation, Immunology/Flow Cytometry, Microbiology, Point of Care (POC), Molecular Pathology, and other ancillary diagnostic areas. - Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)
- Must possess California State Issued Clinical Laboratory Science license as appropriate for job responsibilities (current and renewed every two years as required).
- Bachelor's degree in related area and, or equivalent experience/training.
- Experience in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field
- Technical knowledge in one or more of the following sections: Chemistry, Hematology/Hemostasis/Special Coagulation, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology, Point of Care Testing, Special Chemistry, and/or Toxicology.
- Knowledge of hospital and laboratory regulations and requirements (e.g. CDPH, CAP, TJC, AABB, FDA, NAACLS, FACT, OSHA) for testing and laboratory safety.
- Ability to recognize processes that could lead to failures; ability to resolve and report errors and aberrant results appropriately.
- Possess technical knowledge to troubleshoot instrument/equipment problems and utilize appropriate resources to resolve problems.
- Knowledge of personal computer, word processing, data management, and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to utilize effective listening and questioning techniques to educate trainees, residents and physicians in clear and concise manner.
- Ability to maintain reports, documents and records according to policy and regulations.
- Ability to work prioritize and work well under pressure and remain flexible in changing and fast-paced work environment and meet turnaround times while maintaining a high level of work performance.
- Ability to maintain the security of confidential information, exercise judgment, tact and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential information and situations.
- Ability to function and work in a diverse work environment.

- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and assist coworkers when needed, to accept directions from direct and indirect supervisors, to make changes based on supervisor's evaluation.
- Ability to use Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), EPIC EMR, hospital incident reporting systems (e.g. RL Solutions).

Department Overview The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse, multi-site department whose mission is to be scientific leaders who promote excellence through clinical diagnostics, next generation innovation, collaborative discovery and world class education in service to all communities. Departmental academic operations are conducted within central administrative offices in various locations at the Medical Center in Sacramento and in research space on both the Sacramento and Davis campuses Department Specific Job Scope The UC Davis Center for Diagnostic Innovation (CDxI) is seeking a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to support routine and novel clinical and research testing. With the CDxI investigational laboratory receiving Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) certification, the Center offers patient testing and expanded operations. This role will play a pivotal part in developing new clinical tests and supporting investigational studies. This position will be conducting moderate and high complexity testing under CLIA and will occasionally back up similar roles in coordinating research labs within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
