Job Description

Join Allstate's legal frontline and champion the defense for both the insured and the Company. As a Trial Attorney, you'll handle auto liability and premises liability matters with frequent trials, hearings, and mediations. Beyond the courtroom, you'll provide counsel to business partners and collaborate across legal teams. Stay ahead of emerging laws and regulations to help ensure our strategies remain sharp. This role offers a dynamic blend of challenge, growth, and meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to resolution, including case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions.
  • Gather and organize documents, evidence, and research for hearings, trials, mediations, and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare concise summaries and reports.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
  • Interview clients and witnesses; draft summaries and maintain clear, accurate communication records.
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and related legal proceedings; may represent the company or clients in routine matters.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and communicate potential impacts to the legal team.
  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop litigation skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar.

Minimum Requirements

  • Early-career experience in trial advocacy.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to draft clear, well-structured legal documents.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process.
  • Skilled in communicating with clients and preparing clear summaries and interaction records.
  • Knowledgeable in legal ethics and professional conduct standards.
  • Equipped with foundational negotiation strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions.
  • Must be within a commutable distance to courts throughout Southeastern Virginia, including Suffolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Northampton, Portsmouth, Newport News, York, Williamsburg, Isle of Wight, Franklin City

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $66,800.00 - 120,650.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
