Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and three years full-time experience in logistics, fleet, warehouse, or related operations.

Substitution of Education for Experience: An associates degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field may substitute for the required experience for up to two years.

Must complete and successfully pass the TBI Forklift Training and OSHA Safety Training courses within the 12-month probationary period.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:

  1. Possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment;
  2. Be able to lift and move heavy objects up to 40 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation;
  3. Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check;
  4. Complete a criminal history and background disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority and agree to release all records involving any criminal history or necessary records to the appointing authority;
  5. Be subject to an intense background investigation in a manner prescribed by the appointing authority, which includes but is not limited to a check of State and Federal criminal records, driving history, social media accounts, credit check, education, military, previous employment, drug use, and reference verification.

Overview

An employee in this position supports warehouse and fleet operations including handling of shipments, maintaining supply and equipment records, assisting with surplus pickups, and transporting vehicles for maintenance and repair, all while adhering to confidentiality protocols. The position also includes sorting mail and performing daily safety equipment checks. This classification performs responsibilities at the entry/training level under close supervision and guidance of a supervisor. This series has second and third levels that function at a more complex capacity.

*An applicant appointed to this Career Path series will be reclassified to the next higher class in the series after successful completion of a mandatory probation period; the successful completion of the Forklift and OSHA training. Receiving `unacceptable' or `needs improvement' performance during the probation period will result in automatic demotion or termination.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains confidentiality of fleet, inventory, and evidence materials by following agency protocols to protect sensitive information.
  2. Assists delivery drivers by receiving shipments using forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand carts, ensuring safe handling to support warehouse operations.
  3. Maintains inventory of office and evidence supplies by organizing and restocking items in the warehouse to ensure availability for agency use.
  4. Supports inventory updates by tagging new equipment and recording disposals according to state and agency policies to maintain accurate asset records.
  5. Schedules surplus pickups by contacting state surplus and coordinating logistics to ensure timely removal of unneeded equipment.
  6. Sorts and delivers mail by organizing incoming and outgoing packages and distributing them to appropriate recipients to support internal and external communication.
  7. Maintains cleanliness of the warehouse and garages by organizing supplies and cleaning workspaces to ensure a safe and efficient environment. Performs forklift checks by inspecting equipment daily to ensure safety and compliance.
  8. Transports vehicles to vendors by driving pool or administrative vehicles for maintenance or surplus to support fleet readiness.
  9. Assists with vehicle check-ins by recording mileage and condition to support accurate fleet tracking.
  10. Communicates with coworkers and leadership by sharing updates and challenges to ensure team alignment and responsiveness.
  11. Participate in training on safety, inventory, and fleet operations to build foundational knowledge and improve job performance.

TN Driver Standards
