The Phlebotomy Site Supervisor is responsible for daily management over phlebotomy site(s) and staff within the department of pathology and laboratory medicine. Manages moderate to high complexity patients and/or parents/guardians, in support of laboratory operations.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 0800-1630, work hours may vary based on the needs of the department.
*This position is for the Briargate campus, will require travel and training to be performed at all the System of Care locations. Training could last up to one (1) year.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Directs day to day technical duties for section. Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction (OTJ or formal training) and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; assists with hiring and firing team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.
- Responsible for the coordination and/or oversight of site-specific programs/projects/initiatives as defined by leadership.
- Participates in leadership activities for department, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives. Serves as a champion of organizational culture, influencing culture change to support site objectives.
- Supports customer service standards and handles customer service escalations for site. Responds in a timely manner to patient/customer needs, including prompt attention to pneumatic tubes, customer deliveries, patient wait times, patient escalations, and phone calls.
- Participates in the support and monitoring of compliance with all regulatory agencies and federally funded programs, productivity analysis, quality/performance improvement and patient/employee safety; ensures compliance against federal, state, and local regulations.
- Initiates and performs procedure review and writing. Maintains inventory and general maintenance.
- Assists and drives creation of competency documents and performs competency assessments.
- Accurately collects and handles appropriate patient samples for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in support of clinical laboratory operations. Procures blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick, or heelstick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines; serve as a technical resource for difficult collections and information.
- Ensures patient is correctly identified through the hospital registration system, accounts numbers are current and correct tests are ordered; checks requisitions for data entry errors and resolves questionable orders in a timely manner. Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner.
- Collects additional non-blood specimens within scope of practice including, but not limited, to nasopharyngeal swabs, throat swabs, buccal swabs, and urine specimens. May perform sweat testing collection.
- Serves as an additional resource for technical and clinical expertise at lab site and a clinical consultant to care providers, involving manager/section supervisor, pathologist or medical director when indicated.
Minimum Qualifications
- EDUCATION - Associate's degree in Allied Health or related field.
- EXPERIENCE - Three (3) years of phlebotomy experience.
- Pediatric experience preferred, but not required.
- EQUIVALENCY - Two (2) years of related experience, beyond stated requirements, may be substituted for the Associate's degree.
- CERTIFICATION(S) -
- PBT(ASCP) - Phlebotomy Technician from American Society for Clinical Pathology OR
- RPT - Phlebotomy Technician from American Medical Technologists
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $28.61 to $42.92
