Overview

Department Overview

Learning and Development is responsible for training and assisting new and current associates in preparing for their job responsibilities. This area conducts various training classes on topics such as professional development skills, claims processing skills and customer service skills. Also, they develop and maintain online documentation systems and online customized courses for the organization. These courses and many other learning events are delivered through the corporate Learning Management System, called Connections.

Primary Responsibilities

The Management Candidate Program is designed to provide a structured and engaging environment in which to learn foundational management competencies and the Performance Management (PM) philosophy of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. The incumbent receives routine management tasks and special projects as assigned by manager. Examples of duties include: implementing the Performance Management process to improve efficiency in the area, providing performance and behavior related feedback and reinforcement to associates, verifying time cards and Performance Based Pay (PBP), creating aligned Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) goals and measures, conducting performance appraisals, and, when necessary, initiating appropriate disciplinary procedures with approval from upper management and/or Associate Services. Participate in and complete new managers' training program and supplemental activities.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior direct management experience; or at least two years of project management experience
  • Knowledge and/or work experience utilizing technology or data to make decisions
  • Prioritization and organizational skills necessary to manage projects and staff
  • Experience working with multiple departments to solve problems
  • Leadership skills which motivate and guide others to accomplish goals
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills
  • Experience operating and thriving under pressure
  • Working knowledge of query tools preferred
  • Experience leading enterprise wide level projects preferred
  • Experience in a tole providing training and/or coaching to others preferred
  • Management and/or supervisory experience leading teams preferred
  • Healthcare experience a plus
    **This position consists of job rotations in the Claims and/or Customer Service divisions.

Work Location

The work location for this position will be hybrid (onsite/remote).
