Position Summary

Perform routine and semi-skilled maintenance, alterations, and repair of electrical equipment in campus buildings and related facilities using appropriate tools and equipment. Assist Journey Electrician with tasks related to maintenance, replacement, or installation of electrical systems and equipment. Perform mandatory maintenance and testing of equipment and maintain documentation. Identify malfunctions or problems and report to Journey Electrician, Lead Electrician, Supervisor or Senior Superintendent. Perform routine, semi-skilled and/or unskilled repairs or replacement of electrical fixtures or equipment. Replace fluorescent tubes, ballasts and lenses. Perform other related duties like operating and maintaining a variety of power or hand tools; transporting materials and personnel to and from job site; cleaning up job site and returning equipment and follow all safety procedures. Provide direction to Facilities Workers working with Facilities Mechanics.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform routine electrical maintenance tasks, including electrical repair on de-energized electrical circuits. Ability to troubleshoot and repair de-energized electrical systems and equipment for malfunctions, sign of damage, deterioration, or adjustment (Required)
  • Working knowledge of various power and hand tools, equipment and materials of the electricians trade. Working knowledge of various types of fire alarm and security alarm systems in order to install and maintain systems and equipment (Required)
  • Ability to read project specifications, blue prints, and technical trade related manuals. Ability to use a variety of power or hand tools and electronic testing equipment. (Required)
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. (Required)
  • Skill in reading standard English text in order to follow through on written orders and carry out assignments. Skill in writing simple English phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports that are accurate and easy to comprehend (Required)
  • Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information. (Required)
  • Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with other trades. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude and provide direction to Facilities Workers as part of a team (Required)
  • Working knowledge of standard safe work practices and Ability to adhere to department policies and procedures (Required)
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. Ability to prioritize assignments and complete projects in a timely manner. (Required)
  • Ability to work indoors/outdoors, in wet/humid weather, and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures. Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g. dirty, noisy, confined spaces etc. Ability to stand, crawl, walk, stoop and push, pull and lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs (Required)
  • Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Ability to consistently be present at job/work (Required)

  • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
