This APP will practice in a busy HIV clinic, working closely with other APPs, residents, fellows, faculty attendings in the Division of Infectious Disease, pharmacists, RN coordinators and clinic support staff. Exceptional communication skills, the ability to work well as part of large, diverse specialty team, an interest in infectious disease and HIV, independence, and intellectual/academic curiosity will be foundational to success in this role.
Globally, the incumbent APP will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis and the development and implementation of patient-specific treatment plans. This clinician will orders and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, as well as consult with other members of the healthcare team when appropriate. Likewise, they will guide patients and families regarding treatments. UVA's Ryan White HIV Program is located in UVA's infectious disease clinic. The full-time APP in this role will work 8 4-hour templated sessions weekly, with an allotment of 8 hours each week for non-patient facing activities (note-writing, pre-charting, follow up communication, in-basket work, etc.). While the primary focus of this work will be HIV-oriented, there will also be considerable overlap with primary care activities given the primacy of HIV to this population's overall healthcare. Support for the role is provided by medical and non-medical case managers, program medical leadership, and dedicated pharmacy support. Professional support is provided by UVA Health's Center for Advanced Practice, a professional and leadership structure focused on our advanced practice clinicians. Preferred Qualifications: *Experience practicing in an ambulatory/clinic setting preferred *Experience in infectious disease, internal medicine, primary care, immunocompromised or immune-suppressed populations a plus *Non-provider experience working with HIV patient populations or other immunocompromised patient cohorts also valuable for a candidate considering this role * 2 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Certifications of particular interest include: *AAHIVS - HIV Specialist *HIVPCP - HIV Prevention Certified Provider *HIVPNC - HIV PrEP Navigation Certification Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen. Clinical: * Provides consultation in specialty area Leadership: * Incorporates research and evidence-based practice in the delivery of patient care MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree. Experience: Department and unit specific. Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.
