A Research Associate II position is available in the Dhawan Lab at the Arthur Riggs Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute. You will perform standard laboratory molecular, cell biology, and bioinformatics techniques, towards understanding mechanisms that regulate pancreatic beta-cell development, function, and regeneration, as well as diabetes pathogenesis. You should have good organizational skills, experience in performing routine laboratory methods, and a mindset to learn new scientific skills.

As a successful candidate, you will:

* Perform a variety of routine and non-routine experiments utilizing a broad spectrum of molecular and cellular biology techniques to include but not limited to: mammalian cell culture including primary cultures and stable cell lines, iPSCs, DNA and RNA isolation, RNA and spatial sample preparation, sequencing library preparation, RT-PCRs, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, tissue collection and processing, islet physiology in vivo and in vitro, mouse genetics, confocal imaging and image analysis.

* Develop and optimize new laboratory methods and help refine existing methods, troubleshoot experimental procedures if experiment outcomes are unexpected or unsatisfactory.

* Accurately record experimental plans and work performed including results and methodology as well as analyze and compile data obtained.

* Lead the management of laboratory inventories, prepare stock solutions, handle and dispose biohazardous and non-biohazardous materials according to safety protocols when necessary.

* Train lab staff in specialized procedures, equipment and theoretical concepts behind unique tests.

* Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

* Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field, with 2 years of post-degree research experience, or 1 year with a Master's degree

* Experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting is preferred.

* Familiarity with routine molecular and cellular biological techniques, such as DNA and RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, Western blot, cell culture, and other related techniques.

* Experience in tissue isolation, operation of a microtome and cryostat and histological analysis, is preferred.

* Proficiency in MS Office applications, R Package or Python.

* Flexible and available to work on weekends when required to meet project deadlines or team needs.
