About the Job

The University of Minnesota Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is hiring a part-time Bioinformatics Analyst. The analyst in this position will work remotely with collaborators at the University of Minnesota.

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities: 70% - Analyze protein structures and sequences to understand mechanistic differences within major protein families; 20% - Use machine learning and other AI to facilitate studies; 10% - Consult with collaborators and UM partners on experimental design and planning.

Qualifications

Required:
Doctorate in biochemistry or related field. Candidates must have significant bioinformatics experience. 3+ years of combining wet lab and bioinformatics research. 1+ years of industry experience. Hands-on experience in developing and carrying out protein structure analysis. Experience in protein and sequence structure comparisons. Must be able to understand and translate biochemical researchers' scientific goals into applications in biotechnology. Must be able to function as part of an interactive team while demonstrating self-initiative to achieve the project's goals and the group's mission. Critical and independent thinking. Excellent oral and written English communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:
Advanced data modeling skills. Use of reproducible research methods and software version control (e.g. git/GitHub). Experience using high performance computing (HPC) environments and job scheduling.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $37/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

Part time position
