Provides pharmacist services for Kelsey Specialty Pharmacy. When present, they are responsible for achievement of customer service, clinical initiative objectives, financial objectives, and regulatory compliance. They are expected to adhere to professional practices and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (KSC) and Kelsey Specialty Pharmacy policies and procedures, and management of assigned personnel including students and pharmacy technicians in the absence of the specialty pharmacy manager. When present, they oversee pharmacy personnel, provision of services, inventory, and overall performance along with the specialty pharmacy manager. Performs all duties of a registered pharmacist including accurate dispensing and counseling of prescriptions to customers. Primary Responsibilities:
- 10% In the absence of or as directed by the specialty pharmacy manager, oversees specialty pharmacy operations and hourly pharmacy personnel including staff schedule and overtime
- 10% Performs professional duties and responsibilities, associated with the processing of prescriptions, to meet KSC objectives and maintains a pharmacy that delivers a high level of customer satisfaction
- 20% Responsible for the education and training of patients on the needs of a patient's medication regimen. This can include REMS compliance, side effect education, drug interactions to monitor for, and other elements as required by the patient's clinical situation. The pharmacist is also responsible for overseeing the technical staff in their provision of information to the patient
- 5% Responsible for the profitable operation of the designated specialty pharmacy including controlling costs to budget and supply expenses, and prescription volume to defined goal. oversees inventory to maintain drug availability necessary for appropriate patient care
- 10% Performs professional duties and responsibilities, associated with processing of prescriptions, to meet KSC and Kelsey Specialty Pharmacy objectives. Responsible for adherence to federal and state pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations. Maintains pharmacy license and is in good standing with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (Non PIC role)
- 10% Responsible for timely communication with key stakeholders. These key stakeholders can include patients, physicians, department leadership, and others. Responsible for reading and responding when requested to emails and other communications sent by pharmacy administration on a timely basis and dissemination of information to pharmacy staff and clinic staff as necessary
- 10% Responsible for pharmacy staff adherence to Kelsey Specialty Pharmacy defined workflow processes. Engaged in promoting culture of patient safety and reports any dispensing error or HIPAA breach to Administrator, Retail Pharmacy along with required assessment of error to be presented to Pharmacy Peer Review Committee
- 15% Implements and ensures success of pharmacy clinical programs and initiatives. Maintains documentation in pharmacy patient record and the electronic medical record where applicable including but not limited to medication synchronization, patient adherence program, companion medication program, pharmacy administered immunizations and specialty medication dispensing. Ensures patient are counselled as required and to engage as a partner in their health and wellness by applicable staff
- 10% Responsible for assisting the patient in accessing Kelsey resources designed to counsel patients in the availability of financial assistance related to the acquisition of specialty medications. This can include overseeing staff in the absence of the pharmacy manager which will assist with this process in addition to providing these services to the patients directly

- BS or Pharm D College of Pharmacy
- Current Texas Pharmacy license
- 2+ years of specialty or retail pharmacy experience
- Data Collection - Experience documenting required clinical and demographic data necessary to appropriately process Specialty Pharmacy Claims
- Proven to operate computer terminal for processing prescriptions
- Communication - Proven ability to communicate with Pharmacy Department personnel to delegate duties, inform about policies, train, assist with performance appraisals, and approve refunds/expense/returns. Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to serve as role model for excellent customer service
- Patient Counseling - Proven ability to engage with patients regarding their medications to educate and improve compliance with prescribe regimens
- Stress Tolerance - Proven ability to make appropriate decisions and accurately process prescriptions in a high stress environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Board Certification - such as BCPS, BCOP, CSP
BCLS - Pharmacy Preceptor Certification
- HMO and 3rd party managed care experience
- Experience as pharmacist-in-charge
- Demonstrable clinical expertise in areas such as oncology and/or neurology
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $43.22 to $77.21 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
