Summary of Position: The Assistive Technology & Accommodation Support Specialist coordinates and implements accommodations and assistive technology services to ensure equal access for students with disabilities. This position provides individualized training, manages alternative format and audiobook requests, and maintains assistive technology systems in collaboration with IT and campus partners. The role also supports data entry and record management by maintaining accurate accommodation data, tracking alternative format materials, and generating reports to support compliance and continuous improvement.

This is a hybrid eligible position that would allow for 1-2 days a week working from home after the training period.



Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.

2. Perform office function's which may include, but are not limited to: respond to internal/external customers and staff; create and modify documents, records, and reports using College standard software; maintain hard copy and/or electronic filing system; monitor inventory and budget information; schedule, coordinate, and prepare materials for meetings and/or appointments.

3. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.

4. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.

5. Assistive Technology & Accommodation Support - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Coordinate and implement accommodations, including assistive technology, testing supports, note-taking services, and alternative formats.
  • Provide individualized training and follow-up for students using assistive technology and accessibility tools.
  • Manage audiobook and alternative format requests through AIM, Bookshare, AccessText. Learning Ally, and similar platforms.
  • Maintain and inventory assistive technology hardware, software, and licensing in collaboration with IT.
  • Troubleshoot assistive technology issues and ensure accessibility tools function effectively across campus systems.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, guides, and training on assistive technology and accessibility best practices for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and support offices to promote inclusive practices and accessible learning.
  • Identify and address accessibility compliance concerns by following up with instructors when course materials or practices do not meet Title II accessibility standards.

6. Data Entry, Record Management & Administrative Support - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Assist with the coordination and maintenance of the Access Services SharePoint site and captioning database system.
  • Track and analyze student accommodation data in AIM; prepare reports for planning, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and track student requests for alternative format course materials, ensure timely ordering of appropriate alternative format materials
  • Oversee the production of alternative format materials into accessible format, and keep up-to-date records of alternative format materials and costs.
  • Assist with front desk coverage, including greeting visitors, answering phones, responding to inquiries, and directing students, faculty, and staff to appropriate resources

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree in related field OR
Education in related field combined with appropriate occupational experience totaling 2 yrs. OR
Related occupational experience totaling 2 yrs.


Special Instructions/About Western

This position reports to: Manager - Access Services

Starting annual/hourly salary range based on education and experience: $23.61 - $30.24

This position would include competitive salary, along with a wide variety of benefits available to full-time Western Technical College Employees.
