Description

Continental Properties is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to join our Development team as a Senior Development Director.

This leadership role is responsible for mentoring and managing a team of Development professionals, while also providing guidance and strategic direction to the entire cross-functional project team- including members from construction, acquisitions, legal, finance, and property management. You will not only guide the Development team in its execution of due diligence, entitlements, and permitting for new multifamily for-lease developments, but also proactively steer the full project lifecycle by advising on strategy, identifying critical next steps, and facilitating key connections between departments to ensure project alignment and success. In addition, you will support Development team members in navigating critical external key stakeholder sessions, including but not limited to neighborhood meetings and municipal hearings, working to build consensus, resolve entitlement-related issues, and advance project objectives. Furthermore, you will champion the improvement of inter-departmental systems and procedures and serve as a subject matter expert across multiple teams. This position offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on high-profile initiatives and the future of Continental's development pipeline.

While we recognize that working from home can be beneficial on occasion and support a hybrid model, in-office presence is essential for this senior managerial position to ensure effective team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and project alignment. #LI-Hybrid (relocation assistance provided)

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor Development team members across various experience levels, including performance reviews and career development planning.
  • Strategize and advise the full project team on establishing and maintaining the critical path for development, ensuring alignment and progress throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex project matters and cross-team initiatives.
  • Support Development team members when conflicts arise by representing the company in municipal and/or external stakeholder meetings; assist as needed with entitlement and permitting issues.
  • Continuously improve departmental systems, guidelines, and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee Development team management of due diligence, entitlement, and permitting for team's projects, including coordination across local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Facilitate regular training sessions on entitlement, due diligence, and essential soft skills.

Skills for Success:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Planning, Civil Engineering, Business or related field required; Master's Degree strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in development, with a focus on entitlement, permitting, and team leadership.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; proven ability to manage teams and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep expertise in zoning codes, municipal approval processes, and real estate terminology.
  • Strategic agility and business acumen to anticipate trends and guide breakthrough initiatives
