Overview
This is a leadership and engineering position within the Structures/Hydraulics Section at the Vermont Agency of Transportation, serving as the State Hydraulics Engineer. The State Hydraulics Engineer is a subject matter expert in, but not limited to, the following areas: hydrologic modeling and calculations, open-channel flow, one- and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling, culvert hydraulics, scour evaluation and countermeasure design, channel and bank stabilization, aquatic organism passage, sediment transport, and fluvial morphology. The primary function of the Structures/Hydraulics Section is the development and design of project plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation projects involving bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related infrastructure across the state. This position, Civil Engineer V - Structures & Hyrdaulics (Job Requisition #53774), is open to all State employees and external applicants. Class Definition
Engineering work at an advanced professional level for the Agency of Transportation. Duties will concentrate on the most highly complex projects and involve design, technical support, and construction oversight under minimal general direction. Independently and professionally design, develop, and oversee transportation plans and specification through advanced knowledge of disciplines including, but not limited to, Roadway, Traffic, Structural, Hydraulic, Geotechnical, Environmental, Materials, and Construction Management. Duties are generally performed in both office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or relatedtechnical field AND seven (7) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as aProfessional Engineer. Preferred Qualifications
