The University of Arizona's Information Technology Services (UITS) invites you to apply for the role of Systems Engineer II (IT Architect II), who will play a critical role in designing, building, delivering, and maintaining technology solutions that support research, learning, and operations in a higher education environment. This position requires a deep understanding of hybrid cloud architectures, particularly Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), and involves working on high-impact projects, systems engineering, and strategic IT initiatives.

This position supports the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC).

Candidates working anywhere in the U.S. may be considered for a remote assignment. If you are selected for this position and are employed to work remotely from outside of Arizona, your overtime exemption status will depend on the laws of the state where you perform your work. For employees working outside of Arizona, you may be hired as an hourly employee in accordance with state laws. A comparable hourly rate range would be $36.32 to $47.21 per hour. These changes would not affect the position duties as outlined.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Configure, deploy, and manage large-scale production storage systems and cloud environments (Azure and AWS).
  • Leverage ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow) for work tracking and project management.
  • Integrate data across systems and applications, ensuring compliance with data security and privacy standards.
  • Develop and maintain architectural approaches and frameworks for the organization's IT infrastructure, including documentation.
  • Take part in a rotating on-call shift.
  • Design and implement IT solutions for medium-sized projects, focusing on specific systems or business needs.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative units to understand and address technology needs.
  • Proactively identify and resolve challenges to ensure project success and system stability.
  • Engage with fellow engineering team members and UAGC community at large, participating in team and department meetings as well actively take part in the team and university's goals and strategic direction.
  • Guide and mentor junior IT staff; conduct training sessions and workshops for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and manage vendor relationships.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong customer service orientation and proactive problem-solving mindset.
  • Familiarity with principles regarding infrastructure, database management, web/application development, and information security.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hybrid cloud environments and enterprise-level architecture.
  • Experience working in a remote environment with high engagement.
  • Experience background in documenting engineering processes and procedures.
  • Experience in training technical staff and end-users.
  • Experience in third-party vendor licensing, contract negotiation, and relationship management.
  • Azure: Scripting, Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, EntraID.
  • AWS: EC2, Lambda functions, cross-platform integrations with Azure.

As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
