POSITION TITLE: Intern - Office of Technology & Development

POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Intern supporting the Office of Technology Development at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California, home to some of the world's most renowned scientists. This is a great opportunity for someone to join a nimble, highly dynamic, and motivated team that drives technology transfer of a world-class research organization. The candidate will work with the OTD team to support key technology transfer functions including development of marketing materials to facilitate outreach to partnering targets, assessment of technologies to support portfolio prioritization, and update of OTD's database and website.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:



  • Develop non-confidential and confidential slide decks and marketing materials to support OTD's Corporate Development function.
  • Assess opportunities in the portfolio by researching industry landscape, competitive information, relevant technologies, historical/comparable terms and transactions
  • Generate and upload non-technical communication and educational materials to OTD's intranet and website.
  • Organize and update OTD's internal database and track BD interactions and developments.
  • Part-time: Up to 12 hours per week, up to 40 hours per week when school is not in session.
  • This position is not eligible for benefits.
  • This is a year-round position, not a summer intern or other short-term internship.
  • Requires current enrollment in either a high school or college/university educational program. Undergraduate enrolled in a relevant scientific program, e.g., biological or life science, strongly preferred.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS:



  • An undergraduate degree in the life sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering) required. Advanced degree (MDs, PhDs, MBAs) not required but will be considered.
  • Strong scientific technical and analytical skills.
  • Basic understanding of business development concepts, business/competitive analysis and/or market research, life science strategy
  • Basic understanding of drug development process, approval process, licensing and IP.
  • Willingness to work across diverse therapeutic areas and modalities.
  • Ability to take direction well, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to describe scientific concepts to a diverse audience.



COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $17.80 - $35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.
