SUMMARY



Responsible for managing and developing relationships with carriers and reinsurers that provide capacity to the Program. Also responsible for the execution of risk selection and pricing in accordance with designated underwriting authority. Oversees the development and management of underwriting team in support of program objectives. Responsible for achievement of account retention, underwriting profitability, rate change and new business objectives. Performs all duties in accordance with all company policies and procedures, and all federal, state, and local laws, wherein the Company operates.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Executes authority as designated underwriter as set forth in the company's insurance program management agreements with carriers.



Manages referral process with carrier underwriters on accounts requiring carrier review and approval.



Meets with brokers, insureds, Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters as needed to define and achieve underwriting objectives.



Manages insurance program renewal process with carriers and reinsurers.



Works with executive leadership team to define and develop new program opportunities.



Develops and implements risk management and loss control strategies within assigned program business.



Assists in determining strategic goals of team(s), including but not limited to resource planning, education/training needs, policy development and business growth.



Identifies, coordinates, and manages all relevant external business partner relationships, including but not limited to insurance carriers and third-party claims administrators and vendors.



Leads and manages all assigned client underwriting projects.



Presents analysis to clients directly in a confident and easy-to-understand manner.



Assists underwriting teams in prospecting activities, including but not limited to meeting with broker clients to define underwriting appetite and promote the relevance of the company's insurance programs to client needs, preparing written RFP responses, finalist presentations and related follow-up activities.



Maintains data tracking and reporting for financial management, underwriting models, client reports and other analytical reporting deliverables.



Engages in educational opportunities to further underwriting knowledge, market trends and regulatory environment.



Addresses incoming correspondence and responds as required in a timely manner.



Leads in training development and execution on all underwriting and analysis related topics.



Serves as mentor to underwriting team.



Performs other duties as assigned.




QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE



Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience



Ten (10) or more years of related experience



Five (5) or more years of management experience leading a team



Valid insurance license (or must be obtained within 90 days of employment)



Must continue to meet Continuing Education requirements for license renewal




SKILLS



Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced MS Excel skills required



Expert in all major areas of underwriting, including risk selection, pricing, and determination of key subjectivities



Expert in understanding actuarial plan values and how they are used in various pricing and analysis projects



Full understanding of underwriting models and reporting templates, with ability to fully modify and customize to meet customer needs



Competent in multiple carrier data and reporting systems as needed to obtain claim data for reporting and analysis purposes



Excellent oral and written communication skills



Excellent problem solving and time management skills



Excellent planning, organizational and prioritization skills



Good customer service skills, including telephone and listening skills



Ability to competently use software available for such types of plan analysis and pricing



Ability to work within a team and to foster teamwork



Ability to completely manage mid-level and large projects as well as effectively manage and lead assigned teams to complete goals



Ability to work productively as an individual to accomplish assigned projects



Ability to prioritize work for multiple projects and deadlines
