SUMMARY: The Director of Business Finance serves as the strategic and analytical leader for the Wholesale Banking division, partnering directly with the EVP FP&A and segment business heads to drive performance, profitability, and disciplined growth. This role blends strategic finance (capital allocation, ROE/RAROC optimization, portfolio economics) with operational execution (forecasting, performance analysis, and decision enablement). The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, translating strategy into measurable outcomes and driving a high-performance, insight-driven finance culture. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned. Strategic Finance & Leadership
- Serves as Finance Head for the Wholesale division, representing Finance in strategic business reviews, capital discussions, and portfolio steering committees.
- Shapes and executes the financial strategy for the segment--covering loan/deposit growth, balance-sheet, margin and revenue optimization, expense management and return on equity.
- Partners with Treasury, Credit, and ALM to ensure the segment's growth trajectory aligns with the bank's capital, liquidity, and risk frameworks.
- Leads scenario modeling for market, rate, and credit cycles; advise business heads on the financial implications of new initiatives and pricing strategies.
- Provides thought leadership and liaise directly with the Division Head and Chief of Staff.
- Co-authors the segment's quarterly business review and supports preparation for Executive Committee and Board presentations.
Performance Management & FP&A
- Owns the planning, forecasting, and performance management cadence for the segment, ensuring a tight linkage between strategy, operational drivers, and financial outcomes.
- Leads monthly performance reviews with business and finance leadership, highlighting drivers, trends, and actionable insights.
- Drives forecast accuracy and transparency--establishing driver-based models that connect production metrics (pipeline, utilization, pricing, deposit costs) to P&L outcomes.
- Evaluates portfolio performance, deposit remixing, and loan growth economics, identifying opportunities to enhance profitability and capital efficiency.
- Partners with controllership and enterprise FP&A to ensure accurate segment reporting and timely close processes.
Decision Support & Profitability Analytics
- Leads analysis of product, client, and relationship profitability--integrating FTP, RWA, and credit risk impacts into banker decision tools.
- Builds financial frameworks for emerging business initiatives, ensuring clear measurement of investment payback and ROE impact.
- Sponsors data visualization and BI initiatives that enhance business insight and speed of decision-making.
Governance & Controls
- Ensures the segment's FP&A and reporting processes adhere to corporate financial governance standards, SOX, and regulatory expectations.
- Maintains audit-ready documentation for forecast models, reporting assumptions, and capital analyses.
- Partners with risk and compliance teams to embed financial discipline into the business's risk appetite framework.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Helps lead and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of ownership, accuracy, and insight.
- Mentors future leaders within Finance; build bench strength through rotational exposure across FP&A, Credit, and Treasury.
- Serves as a bridge between strategy and execution, reinforcing a one-team culture with business and support partners.
- Champions finance transformation and automation--leveraging AI, cloud analytics, and process redesign to drive faster, more intelligent financial decisions.
- Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
- Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
- Identifies and reports suspicious activity.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises function, projects or services and/or one or more employees, as applicable.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance coaching; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field such as economics, finance, statistics, or mathematics required. MBA or CFA preferred. EXPERIENCE
- 15+ years in banking finance, FP&A, or business management, with significant exposure to commercial or wholesale banking, credit or treasury required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Deep knowledge of balance-sheet dynamics, pricing/FTP, credit risk, and RWA/capital management.
- Proven track record of strategic partnership with executive leadership; comfort advising on business trade-offs between growth, risk, and returns.
- Exceptional analytical and modeling skills; experience leading teams that produce actionable insights rather than reports.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI/Tableau, and data-driven forecasting tools; SQL or Python experience a plus.
- Proficiency with the use of AI tools in a professional environment.
- Creative ability to design and build large-scale processes with timely deliverables.
- Understanding of data governance and data quality controls.
- Ability to stay current (up-to-date) with regulatory changes, industry trends and emerging technologies and tools.
- Ability to directly or indirectly lead groups of people in large-scale projects with timely deliverables.
