Position SummaryThis is a probationary position leading to a tenure decision. The typical timeline for tenure decisions at the University of New Mexico is a total of six years, with a mid-probationary review after the first three years.

The Dance Program at the University of New Mexico offers the following degrees: BA in Dance with designated
concentrations in Contemporary and Flamenco; MA in Theatre and Dance with a concentration in Dance History
and Criticism; MFA in Dance; BA in Interdisciplinary Arts, in collaboration with other departments. The University
of New Mexico is a Hispanic-enrolling institution in a minority/majority state. The Dance Program and University
are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to cultivating an understanding of varied cultures through their teaching, research, and service.

Teaching: Teach three courses per semester at undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of flamenco. Ability to teach the following is required: Flamenco technique at four levels; flamenco choreography and improvisation. Ability to teach flamenco history and/or dance pedagogy is welcome.

Research: Maintain research agenda and creative activity that leads to publication and/or performance via
appropriate platforms.

Service: Collaborate with faculty and lead initiatives regarding development of undergraduate and graduate dance curriculum and building strong degrees; mentor and advise undergraduate dance majors; advise graduate students and serve on thesis and dissertation committees; mentor undergraduate and graduate choreography and research projects; co-direct flamenco repertory ensemble; participate in Dance Program administration, including meetings, the annual Dance Major Audition, recruitment activities, and serve on various departmental, college, and university committees.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

A) MFA in Dance or PhD in Dance or professional equivalent
B) Three years of experience teaching Flamenco - at the university level or equivalent
C) Five years of professional performance and/or choreography in esteemed national and international venues (Tablaos and/or Theatre)

Preferred Qualifications:

A) Five years teaching Flamenco at the university level and/or equivalent
B) Experience in building curriculum in Flamenco
C) International connections in the professional Flamenco industry
D) Ongoing current career as a performer, choreographer and/or artistic director
E) Evidence of scholarly research in area(s) of expertise
F) Clear research agenda
G) A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
