| Position Highlights |
The Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will oversee and administer an Indian Health Funded project of the Wassaja Carlos Montezuma Center for Native American Health at the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Arizona. The candidate will work with the Student Engagement Coordinator and with Tribal partners to develop ongoing collaboration that will benefit Native American students that are part of the Kellogg Alternative Credential in Nursing and Public Health, American Indian into Health Professions Summer Program` (AIHP), Indians in Nursing: Career Advancement and transition Scholars (INCATS II) and Wihoyake Network - Reducing Native American Jail Population. This candidate will help promote the ACP among the Tribes and will work to recruit students into the program at the high school, middle school, One-Stop, and Vocational Rehabilitation levels, and help get them employed. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- This candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience working with Tribal Communities. He/She will be collaborating with the Wassaja Center for Native American Health Tribal leadership, Kellogg Alternative Credential in Nursing and Public Health, American Indian into Health Professions Summer Program (AIHP), Indians in Nursing: Career Advancement and transition Scholars (INCATS II) and Wihoyake Network - Reducing Native American Jail Population and College of Public Health. The Candidate will work with UA Departments, Programs, Tohono O'odham Community College (TOCC), San Carlos Apache College (SCAT) when reporting to Tribal leadership to make sure that the Tribes have input and offer feedback in how the Wassaja Center is meeting the needs of the Tribe.
- The Candidate will assist in developing Tribal goal objectives and be the voice of Tribal leaders focusing on the pathways to health professions. The Candidate will assist in identifying Native students from high school, Tribal community colleges, One-Stop, and Vocational Rehabilitation and other communities to apply into our pathway programs that lead to workforce on Tribal lands. Create a tribal and non-tribal community resource guide, which provides up-to-date contact to resources and wrap-around services to keep the family out of the justice system, workforce and education, housing, medical and/or assistance programs to help incarcerated families and released individuals. The candidate is to create a supportive environment that provides access to on-going and well-coordinated activities and services for Tribal families.
- The Candidate will assist in coordinating and managing activities and resources for all programs with interrelated activities with Native students and communities, other programs, departments, staff to ensure efficiency and compliance with policies and procedures as needed to support the overall program objectives. The Candidate will create and manage a productive workforce through continuous learning, career pathways and educational programs: Wassaja Center, SCRUBS Program, Kellogg Alternative Credential in Nursing and Public Health, American Indian into Health Professions (AIHP), Indians in Nursing: Career Advancement and transition Scholars (INCATS II) and Wihoyake Network - Reducing Native American Jail Population Assisting faculty and staff in the development and administration of Med School Prep and other workshops to prepare students for entrance to health career professions.
- Giving presentations to community partners, including high school advisors, the UA stakeholders, and students at elementary, secondary and Tribal/community colleges to interest students in science and recruit into pre-health and health professions careers. This may include school science fairs, health career programs, career fairs, and programs to highlight needed specialty degrees. Managing and engaging in outreach activities of the project in collaboration with the faculty and staff. Planning and coordinating outreach events at conferences and seminars. Developing communications content and materials to promote Wassaja Center and it programs to internal and external constituents via virtual and tangible media including using social media to create a listserv of potential students.
- Additionally, the role includes administrative functions of budget management, event planning, coordination with internal and external stakeholders, faculty, and staff.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to travel to and work within Tribal Communities, as permitted, to support outreach and engagement activities.
- Knowledge of and respect for Tribal sovereignty, governance, and cultural protocols when collaborating with Tribal Nations.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
