American Medical Response (AMR) Syracuse, NY EMT Academy Application deadline - December 5th, 2025 $15.50/hr. starting wage We will host two information sessions where you can stop in to learn more about the program. These will be optional sessions and no RSVP necessary! When: Thursday, November 6th from 6pm to 7pm Sunday, November 9th from 10am to 11am Where: 101 Richmond Avenue Syracuse, NY 13204 Earn while you learn to be an Emergency Medical Technician American Medical Response - Syracuse is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in a rewarding career in pre-hospital medicine. What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)? The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. About the Program: The eligible candidate will be hired as an employee and compensated a training wage while in attendance at EMT Academy at AMR-Syracuse. The Academy is a rigorous eight week program which qualifies the employee to take the New York State Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician exam. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees and uniforms will be paid by AMR Syracuse. The class schedule will be Monday to Friday from 8am to 5:00pm. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate. What happens after passing the course? After successful completion of the course, the employee will be eligible to take a written and skills test offered by the NYS Department of Health (NYS EMT-B) and will be required to work for AMR-Syracuse for a period of at least one year. Upon receipt of the state EMT-B certification, employees will be assigned their full-time shift and complete new employee training. They will also qualify for benefits including:
