| Job SummaryLead complex and non-recurring special projects, initiatives and teams. Deliver technical leadership, process and design standardization, and peer development across NiSource engineering. This effort supplements engineering managers and leaders as a leadership resource with responsibilities beyond the expected capabilities of a senior engineer.
 
 The principal engineer will review and certify complex designs for natural gas distribution/transmission facility installations covering new business, public and system improvement, and maintenance projects according to company standards and other applicable guidelines and codes. Natural gas distribution/transmission facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement & regulation equipment. The principal engineer will provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution/transmission facilities. Collaborate and coordinate efforts with key stakeholders on large projects.

 The role is based in the NiSource IN territory. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of an Indiana reporting location to be eligible. Essential Functions 
 Perform project manager responsibilities for special projects and initiativesReview, evaluate, and exercise responsible charge and certify designs, according to state requirements, over projects being designed by other engineersConduct QA/QC and follow-up development for engineering activitiesRepresent engineering for development of process, material and gas standardsSupplement engineering leadership and serve in an engineering leader role on an interim basis as need.Review permit applications, easement requests, material lists, MAOP documentation, as-built drawings, inventory records, contract bid documentation, and other necessary work order package artifacts to ensure sound execution of design and installation.Prepare feedback on detailed design drawingsSupport Operations employees in emergency situationsProvide training and guidance to new personnelAct as liaison to state, county, and local government officialsParticipate in winter preparedness reviews Required Qualifications For Position 
 Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering curriculum from an EAC/ABET accredited college or university.5 years of related engineering experienceDemonstrated expertise and capabilities in project managementExperience and knowledge that meets the requirements as set forth in the engineering advancement criteriaKnowledge of company and industry codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and proceduresStrong communication and interpersonal skillsProfessional Engineer (PE) License in state(s) being supported Upon Hire Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
