Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry's rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.



As a Financial Services Intern in the Strategic Analysis & Implementation Department, you'll support the team in evaluating new business opportunities such as acquisitions, prepaid purchase deals, and grants. You'll gain hands-on experience by helping build and update financial models, and you'll learn how to assess the financial impact of strategic decisions.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Assist with financial modeling and analysis to support business cases


Help prepare summaries and presentations for senior leadership


Track economic trends and gather market data to inform decision-making


Learn to use internal financial platforms for reporting and analysis


Explore key financial metrics like ROI, NPV, and IRR used in due diligence


Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand how financial strategy supports broader company goals


Participate in onboarding activities for enterprise functions within Financial Services


Contribute to team discussions and help implement strategic initiatives


Strong interest in financial markets, business strategy, and data analysis


Basic understanding of financial concepts and Excel modeling


Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and contribute to impactful projects

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
Demonstrated leadership potential.
Self-motivated and results oriented.
Exceptional communication skills.
Effective networking skills.
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrate an interest in a career applicable to the utility industry.
Participate in full-time employment with CPS Energy.
