About the Team

The Corporate Security (CorpSec) team at OpenAI is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our people and facilities. We are committed to maintaining a secure environment that enables our team to focus on advancing artificial intelligence in a responsible manner.

About the Role

As an Executive Protection Operator, you will play a critical role in protecting OpenAI's leadership and key personnel. You'll plan and execute protective operations for travel, events, and daily movements while maintaining discretion, judgment, and professionalism at all times. We're looking for people who are calm under pressure, adaptable, and collaborative - operators who demonstrate elite-level discipline and a team-first mindset.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA or on the East Coast (Washington, D.C. or New York City). We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. The role requires frequent domestic and international travel, including deployments to complex or high-risk environments.

In this role, you will:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute secure transportation and protective operations for executives and key employees.

  • Conduct advance work, threat assessments, and route planning to mitigate security risks in both domestic and international environments.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, protective intelligence, law enforcement, and vetted vendors to maintain an agile, credible protective posture.

  • Provide immediate response and crisis management during emergencies while preserving discretion and composure.

  • Support residential and travel security assessments and contribute to SOP development and continuous improvement.

  • Support the broader CorpSec mission - including internal and external event security and special projects - with a "no job too small" attitude.

  • Maintain readiness to travel on short notice and operate effectively in foreign and potentially hostile environments.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have operational executive protection experience supporting C-suite or other high-profile principals.

  • Have completed a recognized Executive Protection training program or served five or more years in a dignitary protection assignment with a federal, state, or local law enforcement agency.

  • Hold (or can obtain) a California Guard Card and BSIS Exposed Firearm Permit; LEOSA/HR218 authority is preferred.

  • Bring tactical medical training and demonstrated decision-making ability under pressure.

  • Understand foreign intelligence targeting tactics and tradecraft and have experience in mitigation and counter-surveillance operations.

  • Are a team player willing to support a wide range of security operations and mission requirements.

  • Excel in communication, discretion, and collaboration with senior leadership and external partners.
