Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Orthodontics discipline focuses on the treatment of irregularities of the teeth, jaws, and bite relationship in children and adults.
Position Summary
This research fellow will work on an NIH funded project for advancing the field of Temporomandibular Disorders, specifically in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment outcome assessments. This translational research focuses on the clinical applicability and utility of 3D imaging for assessment of tooth movement and position, treatment outcomes, and the development of a clinical decision support system for pediatric and adult individuals with Temporomandibular Degenerative Joint Disease (TM DJD). The expected outcome of this research position is to provide a comprehensive phenotypic characterization of the temporomandibular joint with treatment, which will advance the development of novel pediatric TM DJD diagnostic and prognostic tools as well as refinement of adult disease models.
