Job Summary
The Shukla Lab is a new research group studying the role of biological membranes in neurodegeneration and cancer. We are seeking a motivated lab technician to provide routine technical assistance in performing assigned duties for various research projects.
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires High School graduation or equivalent and six months of experience in scientific research work. Working knowledge of the various types of equipment in use in the laboratory to which assigned. Extreme accuracy in preparing materials and recording data. Normal laboratory conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment and materials or in hazardous environments.
Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field, with 1-2 years of extensive hands-on laboratory experience (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree with equivalent extensive laboratory experience (considered).
  • Strong technical skills in molecular cloning, protein purification, or cell biology.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic research environment.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture.
  • Familiarity with advanced microscopy techniques.
  • Prior exposure to membrane biology or neurodegeneration-related research


Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform molecular biology, protein expression, and purification experiments.
  • Carry out biochemical and cell-based assays under guidance from the PI and senior lab members.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory stocks, ordering supplies, and organizing shared resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and contribute to data analysis.
  • Support lab safety compliance and contribute to establishing standard operating procedures.
  • Provide general lab support to trainees and help maintain a collaborative, inclusive environment.
