Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Department of Marketing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW) invites applications for a full-time Professor of Practice at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2026. This non-tenure track position offers a unique opportunity for experienced professionals to contribute to both the academic and applied dimensions of marketing education within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
The successful candidate will carry a 4-3 teaching load and is expected to maintain an active profile in applied scholarship, professional practice, and business engagement, with a minimum of one publication over a five-year period. The role also includes opportunities to teach at the graduate level, depending on departmental needs.
Candidates should be prepared to teach multiple sections of undergraduate marketing courses, including Principles of Marketing, as well as courses supporting the department's Marketing Strategy and Professional Selling concentrations. A commitment to experiential learning, curriculum innovation, and student engagement is essential.

Ability to develop and sustain a research agenda that supports credentialing at the Scholarly Academic (SA) or Practice Academic (PA) level, in alignment with AACSB standards
Additional Responsibilities May Include:

  • Supervising student honors thesis projects
  • Providing academic advising and mentorship
  • Participating in course development and instructional design
  • Contributing to school service, including committee work, support for student organizations, and internship supervision

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D., DBA, or an equivalent terminal degree in Marketing or a closely related discipline from a nationally accredited institution.
  • In exceptional circumstances, a combination of advanced graduate education, relevant certifications or licensure, and significant experience at the highest levels of professional practice may be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.

The Marketing Department at UNCW is seeking an innovative and dynamic individual with a proven track record in teaching marketing courses at the university level. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of marketing professionals by envisioning new programs, embracing a growth mindset, and demonstrating a deep understanding of market dynamics. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in both face-to-face and online instruction

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Marketing department serves nearly 700 undergraduate marketing concentration students and offers degrees in two areas: (1) Marketing Strategy and (2) Professional Selling. The Cameron School of Business' Marketing Department is home to the Center for Sales Excellence & Customer Delight. The Department also offers a course in the Cameron School core curriculum, as well as a Marketing specialization in the MBA program and several courses in multiple business masters' programs
