ABOUT THE POSITION

Our Distribution Centers utilize state-of-the-art technology and a dedicated team to provide Columbia Sportswear Company a competitive advantage in distribution. Teams are responsible for shipping millions of units of apparel, footwear, and equipment annually within the family of brands. Accurate order fulfillment and on-time shipments are the hallmarks of our facility.

Second shift schedule: Monday - Thursday, 4:00 pm - 2:30 am

Total Rewards: This position offers competitive compensation of $22.75/hour to start and ongoing opportunities for Merit increases, up to $31.54/hour, including shift differential. Other rewards include:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • As assigned, perform job functions from Coordinator through material handler. Lead by example in each assignment by performing job tasks at an above average level and setting the pace and tone for efficiently completing assignments.

  • As assigned, act as team leader to efficiently manage and complete various projects which require a broad knowledge of the distribution center, organizational capabilities, problem solving, and the ability to motivate and lead team members.

  • As assigned, train material handlers in various job functions by demonstrating correct methods of performing the job duties. Coach and motivate team members to complete tasks in a satisfactory and efficient manner.

  • Cross train in various functional areas to provide back-up for various functions during employee vacations and/or leaves of absence. This may include Receiving Specialist, Traffic, Shipping Specialist, Control Room, Production Supervisor, or other functional areas as assigned.

  • Fill-in for coordinators as directed.

  • Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear management, staff and other departments in order to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.

  • Ability to cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interact with coworkers to accomplish common tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

  • No specific education required, HS or GED preferred.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of warehouse operations.

  • Ability to train and motivate team members.

  • Intermediate computer skills including applicable knowledge and understanding of PkMS, spreadsheets and word-processing.

  • Requires 1 - 3 years of experience in distribution environment with demonstrated training and team leadership experience, and advanced knowledge of departmental functions.

  • Advance knowledge may include the following:

    • Ability to fill in for Shipping Specialist, Receiving Specialist, Coordinator, or other specialized function;

    • Perform Yard Jockey duties;

    • Ability to perform Expediter or Shortage Runner responsibilities;

    • Knowledge required is limited to the work routines and supporting processes of the area. Some formal training or on-the-job experience is required to perform the job effectively.

  • Demonstrated capacity for performing the job functions of a successful and productive material handler. A demonstrated aptitude for understanding and communicating operational needs, for identifying gaps performance that compromise operational effectiveness, and for initiating or recommending solutions that will help attain objectives.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY

This position is generally not supervisory in nature. Incumbent may be asked to act in a supervisory role for assigned periods of time.

JOB SCOPE

  • Job may require that hours exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week to complete priority projects. Exposure to Distribution Center machinery/equipment such as conveyor belts, forklifts and loading docks. Exposure to computer CRT.

JOB CONDITIONS

Travel is not required for this position.

Job is performed in warehouse environment, which could include hot or cold temperatures, dust and noise.

Job typically requires 5 - 8 hour days or 4 - 10 hour days, with periodic overtime as required. Weekend work may be required.
