We are seeking a Scientist 1 to join the Assay Productization team to support the development and commercial launch of newin situ and microscopy-based products. Assay Productization acts as the interface between R&D and Production. The team is involved in all stages of product development from concept to post-launch activities. This is a unique cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of groups including Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Optical imaging, QC, and Manufacturing, to develop and validate novel reagents for the rapid expansion of 10x product lines. Candidates must have a broad working knowledge of chemistry, protein science, and molecular biology and be able to apply that knowledge creatively and independently in a fast-paced work environment. Research experience with DNA oligos, antibody assays, RNA assays, and next generation sequencing (NGS) is desired. Experience in new product introduction and manufacturing operations is a big plus. The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously execute and analyze highly complex experiments. What you will be doing:
- Lead and/or assist in new product development for in situ assays and transfer to manufacturing.
- Represent the Assay Productization group in meetings with R&D, manufacturing or other groups.
- Support the assay development team in the optimization of novel molecular biology assay schemes for the detection of analytes in situ.
- Proactively identify risks in the product development process related to reagent/consumable supply, cost of goods, and manufacturability of products.
- Establish relationships with external vendors in order to facilitate the procurement of reagents/consumables.
- Lead reagent guard banding, stability studies and troubleshooting.
- Independently design and perform in situ experiments in a variety of mammalian cells and tissue samples.
- Image tissue samples under wide field and confocal microscopies.
- Analyze and present results in meetings.
- Prepare, formulate, and test newly designed 10x reagents either from SOPs or R&D protocols.
- Conceive, develop, and implement new QC methods to assess reagent quality through a variety of analytical and functional tests.
- Write and update batch records, material specifications and analytical methods and train other lab personnel.
- Work within multidisciplinary teams.
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S./M.S. or Ph.D. in in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field.
- For B.S./M.S., 4+ years of relevant biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Experience in a process or product development role, especially technology transfer to manufacturing and/or QC groups.
- Proficient in standard molecular biology techniques such as sample preparation, nucleic acid amplification and purification (RNA/DNA), and DNA/RNA in situ hybridization experience.
- Light and fluorescent microscopy experience.
- Proven ability to use a variety of scientific equipment including plate readers, Bioanalyzers, gel imagers, thermal cyclers, real-time PCR instruments etc.
- Experience with experimental design and statistical data analysis.
- Ability to perform complex multi-step experiments with detailed and diligent attention to planning, organization, hands-on technique, and record keeping.
- Experience troubleshooting molecular biology-based assays and issues with reagent quality (manufacturing process, QC and stability).
- Proven ability to write detailed SOPs and train others to successfully perform the work.
- Experience generating reports/presentations and forecasting reagent usage and costs.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- An affinity for detail, especially in planning and executing complex tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities.
- Desire to work in a flexible and fast-paced startup environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in antibody conjugation/purification/detection
- Experience in DNA oligo synthesis
- Experience in multiplexed in situ RNA detection on tissue sections
- Experience in single cell or spatial analysis techniques.
- Experience running a variety of NGS assays
- Experience creating and optimizing novel assays.

Below is the base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one's skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company's total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x's equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program.
