The Associate Administrator of Keck Medicine of USC Specialty Pharmacy is responsible for strategy, program planning and expansion, budgeting, quality and patient safety as well as the oversight of operations including: cost effective delivery, consistent customer service, clinical effectiveness, patient safety, engagement an development of staff. Furthermore, this role is responsible for oversight of all regulatory, compliance and accreditation standards of the assigned business unit. The Associate Administrator will provide leadership and overall accountability for the specialty pharmacy services including but not limited to new clinical or service offerings, patient and customer engagement, purchasing, contracting, information systems, site development, policy and procedure development and maintenance, management, training, marketing and other areas as assigned. This role will assist and hold site managers accountable for achieving measurable goals and maintaining compliance with legal requirements and Keck Medicine policies and procedures. Create and build relationships with external partners including vendors, manufacturers, trade organizations, providers, payer and benchmarking groups to identify opportunities to collaborate and develop efficiencies.

Essential Duties:

  • Strategic and Operational Leadership: * Lead and oversee day-to-day operations of the specialty pharmacy program, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and alignment with organizational goals. * Develop and implement strategic initiatives to grow and enhance specialty services, including innovation and operational expansion. * Drive performance improvements through quality initiatives, performance metrics, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Financial Oversight: * Manages the financial performance and productivity of business departments within defined fiscal parameters and develops action plans for variations from budget. * Develop, manage, and monitor operational and capital budgets; optimize cost-effectiveness, financial targets, and staffing efficiencies.
  • Team Leadership and Development: * Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for pharmacy teams, ensuring productivity and staff engagement. * Foster a culture of mentorship, collaboration, and continuous professional development among team members.
  • Coordinate with leadership and functional teams to align specialty pharmacy priorities across clinics, health systems, and network.
  • Lead cross-departmental collaborations to launch new services, improve workflows, and scale programs.
  • Serves as a collaborative partner and innovative leader alongside our business development, clinical development, industry relations, and clinic and hospital senior leadership teams to design, develop and implement comprehensive pharmacy services within assigned business departments.
  • Participates in clinical and quality management programs to assure the pharmacy services provided are effective, impactful, and aligned with Keck Medicine of USC's strategic priorities.
  • Compliance & Accreditation: * Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance (e.g., state pharmacy boards, URAC, ACHC), and manage related policy development. * Oversee adherence to legal, safety, and quality standards within the organization.
  • Patient Access & Experience: * Ensure seamless access to specialty medications for patients, including affordability support and removing barriers. * Drive programs enhancing adherence, time-to-fill metrics, and patient satisfaction.
  • Oversee the maintenance and renewal of payor contracts to ensure ongoing network participation, optimize reimbursement for specialty medications, and support access to care for complex patient populations.
  • Mentor Pharmacists in training, Residents, and Interns; activities should include both practical and didactic experiences.
  • Maintain liaison relationships with medical and nursing staff; provide timely information pertaining to pharmaceutical supplies, drug usage and compatibility, state and federal regulations regarding drug controls, and Joint Commission/Accreditation Standards.
  • Participates in after-hours and weekend on-call to ensure 24/7 availability of pharmacy support and provide remote or on-site clinical and operational guidance to resolve urgent issues related to medication dispensing, patient safety, or regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate Graduation from an accredited college of pharmacy and licensure as a registered pharmacist in the State of California. Completion of a pharmacy residency program and an advanced degree program (i.e.: Pharm.D., Ph.D.).
  • Req 5-10 years Management experience in Ambulatory Care, Specialty Pharmacy, Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy or similar setting
  • Req Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Req Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Req Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service.
  • Req Record of successfully building and leading teams through change, including multi-site teams.
  • Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Registered Pharmacist (CA DCA) Current pharmacy licensure with California State Board of Pharmacy
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
  • Pref Advanced Practice Pharmacist via the CA State Board of Pharmacy

The annual base salary range for this position is $191,360.00 - $315,744.00.
