Lab Aide

The Rajan Lab in the Basic Sciences Division is looking for a reliable, organized, detail-oriented individual, to support ongoing exciting research on energy homeostasis using fruit flies. This is ideal for an individual who is interested in an entry-level introduction to a research lab environment and has an interest in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry.

The candidate should be able to work approximately 10-14 hours per week every week; flexible hours within reason can be chosen after the initial training period. Longer engagement with greater involvement with the Lab also possible.

Under the close supervision of the staff scientist and tech, our Lab Aide will:

Assists with regular maintenance of the lab's Drosophila melanogaster strains
• Maintains the spreadsheet for the lab's stock collection, under supervision
• Prepares media and reagents, such as stock solutions
• Assists with routine research tasks, including molecular and tissue culture work
• May aliquot reagents as required
• Maintains a clean and orderly laboratory area

Required:

• Graduation from High School or equivalent with interest in the sciences.

Preferred:

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree with completion of college-level coursework in biology
• Experience with fruit fly husbandry or familiarity with this model system is highly desirable.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $30.13 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
