Position Summary
The CWI shall inspect and certify that all welds meet customer expectations and ensures the overall quality of materials, products, and processes meet established internal and external standards throughout RK. The CWI will also act as the corporate representative for all standards used by RK (ex. ISO, SIAC, ASME, AWS)
Role Responsibilities
  • Welding inspectors perform visual inspections on welded products and structures in progress and on completed jobs. Visual inspections search for defects in the weld such as cracks, lack of fusion, porosity, etc. The inspector uses magnification to find defects that potential weaken the strength of the joint. Inspectors measure welded products to ensure that they meet specifications for dimension.
  • Inspectors will check weld machine setup and the welding techniques of welders on work in progress to ensure the quality of the work. Welding inspectors record the results of tests and welding inspections.
  • Ensure the product that is produced by RK business units meets the customer specs and industry standards.
  • Inspect products to drawings that are provided by RK engineering group.
  • Create necessary documentation and checklists needed to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Develop, implement and maintain quality plans for purchased material, in-house processes, and field activities.
  • Ensures that documented procedures needed for the quality management systems are established and maintained
  • Is part of continuous improvement activities and trainings
  • Regularly evaluate performance data and trends and develop recommendations and action plans for improvement.
  • Provide technical assistance to all functional departments and suppliers in resolving quality related problems.
  • Maintain welding qualification and certification programs, WPS's, PQR's, welder continuity logs and Customer Data Books.
  • Review customer requirements to ensure compliance at bid and award.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Corrective Action System and ensure root cause solutions are identified and implemented.
  • Communicates with external parties on matters relating to the quality management system.
  • Responsible for code compliance
  • Responsible for the administration and implementation of the quality control system.
  • Train, and direct quality control resources (inspectors) in the performance of inspections and carrying out project related duties.
  • Ensure all work fully complies with the contract drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Ensure all materials, equipment, and workmanship are inspected for compliance to specifications.
  • Identify quality control problems (non-conformances) through proper inspections and recommend/provide solutions.
  • Identify items for improvement and implement changes by coordinating with appropriate individuals with respective subcontractor, supplier or internal department.
  • Maintain work performance records, inspection records, and other related compliance items as necessary.
  • Monitor subcontractor work to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, and codes when applicable and issue reports regarding quality deficiencies and remediation requirements.
  • Develop punch lists and final inspection and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure all certificates and final inspections have been obtained prior to project close out.
  • Exercise the authority to halt work on nonconforming work and activities.
  • Local travel required
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • Experience in non-destructive examination (NDE) procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and/or requirements:
  • AISC
  • ISO 9001:2015
  • AWS D1.1 and D1.3
  • Experience in operations involving structural steel, sheet metal, mechanical, and electrical assembly.
  • The American Welding Society has welding programs to certify welding inspectors. Certifications include certified associate welding inspector (CAWI), certified welding inspector (CWI) and senior certified welding inspector (SCWI). Certifications require experience as a welder and inspector before moving on to advanced certifications. RK offers mentorship programs to advance employee development and can be utilized by any employee
  • Computer literate in Microsoft products, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Ability to analyze complex data with a variety of variables to solve practical problems where only limited standardization exists.
Minimum Physical Requirements and Accountability
  • Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas.
  • Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations.
  • Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.
  • Must have working knowledge of all trade materials and tools.
  • Ability to lift, move, and/or carry 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Prompt, punctual, and regular attendance during core business hours, in an office or warehouse environment, including a reliable means of transport to and from work. Ability to occasionally travel between corporate offices and jobsites within the Denver Metro Area, during work hours.
