A Brief Overview Under the general supervision of the lab leadership: process laboratory specimens, data entry, and specimen transport as ordered by the respective clinicians. Must exhibit the ability to work independently and provide customer service using CHOP ICARE values and Service Standards.
What you will do
- Central Lab Services - Specimen Processing
- Assess specimen requirements and specimen integrity
- Triage, accession, process, and deliver specimens following established procedures
- Perform waived testing
- Prepare and distribute specialized collection containers
- Exhaust all options problem-solving to avoid re-collection when possible
- Store specimens according to laboratory-specific storage directives as needed
- Customer Service
- Face-to-face

- Interfacing with patients, laboratory staff, medical staff, medical courier, and vendors
- Provide a patient-centric collaborative experience
- Diffuse anger or frustration, aim to provide solutions
- Answer questions and provide support
- Proper phone etiquette following established procedures
- Ensure a warm tone of voice

- Call critical lab values to clinician
- Equipment maintenance
- Maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, vortex, refrigerator, freezers, glassware)
- Inventory
- Blood product inventory ordering
- Restocking supplies
- Assists in monitoring of inventory control
- Limited messenger service as required
- Promptly delivers specimens or paperwork throughout the health care campus as required.
- Promptly activates and executes the pneumatic tube downtime procedures as required
- Is knowledgeable in the use of resources to identify transport temperatures for all specimens and ensure stability
- Scheduling
- Must be flexible in scheduling and cooperation in performing all assigned tasks
- Responsible for working rotating on-call, weekends, and holidays when required
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Lab leadership team
Schedule
- Monday - Friday: 6:00am - 2:30pm
- The team also shares coverage for weekends and holidays on a rotating basis
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED - Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - upon hire - Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Scientific Laboratory - Preferred

$20.55 - $25.69 Hourly
