Job Summary
Reporting to the Sr. Director, International Affairs, the manager will support AIA's goals by advancing the organization's global outreach and, with a focus on global policy and practice issues, as well as relationships with international organizations.
The Manager, International Affairs will be responsible for the coordination of the AIA Global Practice Committee (including meeting support and committee activity management) and will assist the Sr. Director in strengthening AIA's global advocacy efforts. This role will also be responsible for developing and managing content for aia.org (AIA's website) related to global affairs and international relations.
The manager will also provide support to the Sr. Director in maintaining key international partnerships and organizational relationships.
Job Duties:
General
- Provide logistical support for meetings, educational sessions, business meetings, events, conference calls, and AIA's Conference on Architecture & Design.
- Manage all content posted on aia.org related to global affairs international relations. Coordinate with other members of the AIA staff who also work on international-related projects (i.e., the Membership and Components Team) to ensure accuracy of content.
- Coordinate with the Sr. Director on various projects and presentations to help educate and inform others about AIA's global engagement.
- Manage other related duties, as assigned.
Global Policy
- Perform research and analysis to identify and prioritize international policy issues and geographies for AIA engagement.
- Help coordinate and support staff AIA's engagement with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), UN Climate Change Conference (COP), and other UN agencies as directed.
- Research and analyze global policies and regulations impacting the architecture profession, the built environment, and trade in services.
- Write reports on issues of importance to the AIA surrounding global practice issues, including issue briefs, talking points, strategy memos, articles, etc.
International Relations
- Coordinate logistical arrangements for invited international guests at the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design.
- Assist and communicate with members, foreign presidents, and executives of foreign architecture associations, firms, and guests.
- Maintain contact lists, terms of office, etc. for officers of foreign associations and organizations for International Relations.
Global Practice
- Support monthly Global Practice Committee meetings, identify technical or policy project needs to support committee activities, and respond to committee inquiries in an efficient manner to ensure that volunteers have a meaningful impact on AIA and the profession.
- Assist Sr. Director with developing educational programs for AIA members, featuring domestic and international business, practice issues, and opportunities within a global context.
- Work with the Sr. Director to develop tools and resources to support AIA's global practice efforts.
- Manage content posted on the AIA Global Practice Community Hub website and other international content on AIA.org.

Qualifications
- The ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish or French at an intermediate level is preferred, but not required. Any foreign language skills are a plus.
- The ability to effectively interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds (volunteer leadership, members, staff, visitors, foreign architects, and officials) is required.
- Proven ability to work independently while successfully managing multiple priorities and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Proficient skill in communicating complex ideas both in writing and orally, including analyzing complex subjects quickly, researching, and providing logical presentations.
- Collaborative problem-solving, creativity, and active listening skills are essential.
- Proficient service orientation and organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including intermediate/advanced competency in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Bachelor's degree in International Affairs, Public Affairs, Political Science, or related degree with 3-5 years of international or policy experience preferred. Some travel may be required.
