BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS Operations Center Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $60,720.00 annually This position is open to current AFSCME BIDDERS AND the PUBLIC. Only current City employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4, & 5 are considered BIDDERS and are eligible to bid. Qualified BIDDERS who properly submit a bid application will receive preference over any non-bidders. Under general supervision, staff the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) 24-hour watch desk in the Operations Center (OC), function as a communications officer, receiving, monitoring, and processing information via various computer systems, radios and surveillance cameras relating to special events, emergencies and other situations impacting public safety, and performs related duties as required. Additional duties may be required for this position. LOCATION: Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) DIVISION/UNIT: Operations Center ADDRESS: 1411 W. Madison Street SHIFTS: 6 am to 2 pm; OR 2 pm to 10 pm; OR 10 pm to 6 am (Rotating - all 3 Watches) *Shift will be assigned based on operational needs DAYS OFF: Wednesday/Thursday OR Tuesday/Wednesday (employees are required to work on weekends and holidays AND the position will require mandatory overtime) THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalence certificate (GED), plus two years of experience performing fast paced, high volume public contact work, or two years of emergency management or emergency communications experience. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview. This position also requires candidate(s) to complete a Willingness and Ability questionnaire. Candidate(s) who affirmatively answer the Willingness and Ability questionnaire will be interviewed. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
