Job Description The Nutrition and Experimental Metabolism Lab ( NutriX) at Saint Louis University, directed by Hossein Rafiei, Ph.D., RD, ACSM-CPT, Assistant Professor of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, is recruiting for a Research Associate to perform research projects and supervise research activities in the lab. The successful candidate will contribute to the lab's research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to: * Assisting in the design, planning, and execution of laboratory experiments focused on nutrition, oxidative stress, inflammation, and metabolic health with a specific interests on mitochondrial function and biogenesis. * Performing experiments using human cell lines and human blood samples. * Conducting routine molecular biology assays, such as: o ELISA o qPCR and RNA extraction o Western blotting and Immunohistochemistry o Microscopic imaging (e.g., brightfield and fluorescence) * Maintaining sterile technique and performing cell culture * Preparing buffers, reagents, and media, and conducting sample preparation and processing * Collecting, analyzing, and recording experimental data with accuracy * Presenting results in laboratory meetings and assisting in the preparation of manuscripts and reports * Maintaining laboratory cleanliness and adhering to biosafety and chemical safety protocols * Collaborating with other lab members and assisting with general lab operations * Other research-related duties as assigned by the PI Minimum Qualifications: * An earned or in process doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Nutrition, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field * At least 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience (academic or industry), especially in cell culture and routine molecular biology techniques * Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and sterile technique * Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately * A strong interest in pursuing and conducting basic science research * Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work both independently and collaboratively Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with molecular techniques such as ELISA, qPCR, and Western blotting * Knowledge of oxidative stress, inflammation, and metabolic disease models * Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, GraphPad) and Microsoft Office * Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills Additional Information: * Part-time position (~20 hours/week) * Lab is located in the Schwitalla Hall and associated with the Doisy College of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Saint Louis University Function
