The Senior Pursuits Manager is responsible for overseeing firmwide pursuit and proposal management function, with primary accountability for the go/no-go process, proposal process optimization, capture planning, performance metrics, and pursuit team management. This role ensures the firm pursues the right opportunities, executes proposals efficiently, and continuously improves win rates. The position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and collaborates closely with the CMO, principals, and technical leaders to align pursuit activities with the firm's overall growth strategy.

In addition to process and team leadership, this role provides strategic guidance and hands-on support for select high-profile pursuits, particularly during capture planning and shortlist interviews.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to:

  • Pursuit & Proposal Management
    • Oversee the firmwide pursuit framework, including go/no-go, capture planning, proposal development, and shortlist interviews.
    • Lead the go/no-go process, ensuring opportunities are strategically aligned, resourced, and evaluated for ROI.
    • Direct and refine proposal processes, templates, tools, and best practices to improve efficiency and quality.
    • Guide pursuit teams in developing client-focused strategies, win themes, and differentiators.
    • Facilitate preparation for shortlist interviews, including storyboarding, coaching, and rehearsals.
    • Ensure proposal management addresses the unique requirements of the AEC industry, including federal, state, and local RFPs and design-build RFQs.
  • Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
    • Track and report pursuit performance metrics and KPIs (e.g., win rates, ROI, cycle times, workload).
    • Deliver regular reports and insights to the CMO and firm leadership to inform strategic decision-making.
    • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across the pursuit lifecycle.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration
    • Manage, mentor, and develop the team of pursuit and proposal professionals, balancing resources across concurrent pursuits.
    • Act as a facilitator between technical teams, principals, business development, and marketing to ensure collaboration and alignment.
    • Collaborate closely with the CMO to integrate pursuit activities into broader marketing and growth strategies.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships across the firm and within the AEC industry, engaging in the community and maintaining active participation in professional organizations.
  • Strategic Pursuit Involvement
    • Provide leadership on select strategic pursuits, from capture through proposal and interview.
    • Partner with client managers and business development staff to strengthen positioning and client engagement strategies.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership on pursuit strategy and resource planning.

Skills/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the AEC industry, with deep familiarity with industry-specific pursuit and proposal requirements.
  • Proven experience managing and developing proposals across multiple markets, including federal, state, and local RFP responses and design-build RFQs.
  • Demonstrated success leading and managing a team of marketing/pursuit professionals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite; experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar CRM/proposal tracking platforms preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a client-focused mindset.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Creative, strategic thinker with a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Actively engaged in the community and professional organizations, with established relationships in both marketing and engineering circles.
