The CEHD Office of Academic Assistance is seeking to hire a skilled and talented Academic Advisor II who will be dedicated to undergraduate student success, possess a high attention to detail, demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, embrace advising-related technology, think critically on the job, and exhibit a high level of motivation and initiative.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

The Academic Advisor II will work closely with two other advisors and the Director in the CEHD Office of Academic Assistance, as well as with department faculty and staff, but will also be required to work independently. Each advisor is assigned a specific population of students and is required to document all advising transitions in Navigate/SSC Campus. The scope of responsibility will include these essential duties but is not limited to the following:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Advise prospective and current students about academic requirements and course selection.

  • Review applications for teacher preparation and human development majors.

  • Audit students for graduation clearance.

  • Lead orientation sessions for incoming sessions.

  • Assist with college and university information sessions.

  • Monitor and track the retention, progression and graduation of students in assigned population.

  • Evaluate transfer credit.

  • Teach or co-teach GSU 1010 New Student Orientation classes.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Preference will be given to those who possess a master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling or a related field and those with experience working with student retention, advising, admissions or student affairs programs. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication and group presentation skills, and proficiency with Excel, Banner and student success platforms (Degree Works and Navigate/SSC Campus).Strong skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort with learning appointment scheduling / student information systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.

  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail; ability to multitask and prioritize.
