JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Penn State DuBois campus is seeking a dedicated and technically skilled IT Support Specialist to work part-time to support the Information Sciences and Technology (IST) program during its transition period. This part-time, limited-term position plays a vital role in maintaining instructional infrastructure, supporting faculty initiatives, and ensuring a high-quality learning environment for students. This role is active through the campus closure transition and will remain active for the duration of that period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage networking and server equipment for IST infrastructure and student projects.
  • Administer a Windows Active Directory domain, including user accounts, group policies, DNS, DHCP, and related services.
  • Build, manage, and administer virtualization environments using Hyper-V and Proxmox.
  • Configure and manage Windows and NFS file shares across diverse platforms.
  • Prepare and maintain lab environments to support classroom instruction and hands-on learning.
  • Perform hardware and software troubleshooting across Windows, Linux, and Mac OS systems.
  • Support IST faculty on technical projects, instructional initiatives, and curriculum innovation.
  • Manage and mentor student interns, fostering technical growth and professional development.
  • Implement and maintain imaging and backup solutions using Free Open Source Ghost (FOG) and Veeam.
  • Ensure secure and reliable networking using Juniper and Fortinet technologies.
  • Explore and integrate emerging technologies to enhance instructional delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the IST program.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Proficiency in Linux system administration
  • Experience with Windows 10/11 administration
  • Strong understanding of networking and security principles
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper and Fortinet equipment
  • Experience with Hyper-V and Proxmox virtualization platforms
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new technologies

Preferred:

  • Experience with Ceph distributed file systems
  • Mac OS administration experience
  • Familiarity with FOG and Veeam backup solutions
  • Prior experience supporting instructional environments or faculty projects

Appointment Details

This is a part-time, limited-term position funded through the Penn State DuBois campus closure transition. The appointment will continue through the designated transition period, with no guarantee of renewal beyond that timeframe.
