Job Summary


Employment Duration: 3 months

The Rehabilitative Services Aide provides both direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of licensed Occupational, Physical, and/or Speech Therapists. This role supports treatment, assists with patient activities, and ensures smooth daily operations within the Rehabilitation Services department.

The position primarily serves adult, geriatric, and adolescent patients, with occasional pediatric care when competency training has been completed. The aide also participates in departmental programs, performance improvement initiatives, and staff development activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  • Provide treatment under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist.
  • Assist with patient care activities and discharge planning.
  • Coordinate and distribute patient schedules.
  • Transport patients to and from therapy sessions.
  • Maintain accurate patient care records and progress notes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
  • Manage time efficiently to balance patient care and clerical duties.

Departmental Support

  • Complete required departmental tasks such as scheduling and timecard documentation.
  • Maintain and track therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with clerical or reception duties as needed.
  • Represent the department in a professional manner.

Education & Training

  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service programs, and team training.
  • Support the orientation and onboarding of new staff.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior clinical experience involving direct patient interaction.
  • Current CPR certification (or eligibility).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work at multiple UCSF Health locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in an acute care hospital, inpatient rehabilitation, or outpatient setting (sports medicine, orthopedics, neurology).
  • College degree in a related field.
  • Advanced certifications such as ATC, CSCS, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and rehabilitation equipment (e.g., Alter-G, BTE, TRX, treadmill, body weight harness).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

License/Certification


  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
