Summary:

Develops and executes various projects to support the MWRA's engineering, operations, maintenance, and administration departments. Performs and reviews drafting procedures using AutoCAD and Raster Design as well as other CADD related software. Produces archive quality plans and drawings for use in construction, operation, maintenance and administrative activities.

Salary: $80,381.83 to $112,273.02 annually $1,545.80 to $2,159.10 weekly

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm

Key Responsibilities



  • Prepares drawings and other design related documents using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other AutoCAD software applications.
  • Prepares and maintains design/construction/maintenance documents and participates in the development of MWRA drafting standards.
  • Assists in the preparation of drawings, reports, permits, service contracts, technical specifications and calculations on electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, civil, architectural and environmental projects related to wastewater treatment facility, in coordination with the engineering staff.
  • Assists in as-built process by studying the project utilizing the available information (including red-line drawings) to verify current field conditions.
  • Performs site visits for measurements and field condition verifications.
  • Assists in the QA/QC of drawings turned over from engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors for the quality of outputs and compliance to MWRA CADD Standards.
  • Responds to requests from engineering, operations, maintenance and other MWRA departments to assemble, display and /or print out drawings in a timely manner.
  • Assisting individuals seeking public records in identifying the records requested and maintaining records of the requests.
  • Manages and maintains the supply inventory for CADD related peripheral devices. Reports operational problems of CADD related peripheral devices.
  • Tests, evaluates and provides recommendations for new CADD related software, hardware and peripheral devices.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science degree; and
  • Minimum of four (4) years of CADD-related drafting experience using AutoCAD, Raster Design and other AutoCAD software applications required. Prior work experience in a consulting engineering field preferred; and
  • Experience in the peripheral devices associated with CADD drafting such as plotters and scanners; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • A valid Class D Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operators License.


Knowledge and Abilities



  • Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical, electrical, structural, plumbing or instrumentation drafting using AutoCAD, Raster Design and its vertical software applications.
  • Knowledge of MS Windows Office suite, graphics/imaging editing methods, and file format conversion methods.
  • Knowledge of engineering design and construction process.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.


Tools and Equipment Used

Office equipment as normally associated with the use of telephone, personal computer including word processing and other software, copy and fax machine.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings and moderately quiet in an office setting.
