The College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS) at the University of Minnesota is dedicated to providing high-quality, flexible, and career-relevant education to a diverse student body. The Faculty Director will provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the fully online (asynchronous) Applied Business (ABUS) program within CCAPS. This pivotal role involves overseeing course development, ensuring pedagogical excellence, and managing faculty engagement. The Director will play a key role in shaping the future of the ABUS program at CCAPS, ensuring the program remains responsive to evolving needs and provides exceptional learning experiences for all students.

This is a 12-month, 25-50% time (10-20 hours/week) annually renewable Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) appointment that reports to the Director of Undergraduate Programs in CCAPS.

This position offers a flexible work arrangement as a hybrid position and has the unique opportunity to help shape and be responsible for the student experience.

Major Responsibilities

Teaching (50%)
* Deliver Core Instruction: Teach 6-7 credits of courses per academic year, demonstrating excellence in instruction within the relevant program area.

Curriculum and Program Management (40%)
* Oversee Pedagogy and Academic Integrity: Provide leadership and guidance to ensure the highest standards of pedagogical effectiveness and academic integrity across the program.
* Integrate Evolving Trends: Interpret, evaluate, and proactively integrate current industry, professional, and educational trends into the program to maintain program relevance and competitiveness.
* Identify Program Innovation: Proactively identify and explore opportunities for program development, growth, and innovation to enhance the student learning experience and program offerings.
* Direct Course Development: Lead the process of new course development and actively engage faculty in creating innovative courses aligned with program goals. Prepare and present comprehensive course syllabi and new program proposals to the CCAPS Curriculum Council, coordinating the successful implementation of all approved proposals.
* Collaborate on Course Scheduling and Teaching Assignments: Work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Programs and program staff to plan and coordinate schedules for ABUS courses based on program needs, faculty expertise, and enrollment projections
* Faculty Recruitment, Hiring and Onboarding: In consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Programs, plan and execute the recruitment and hiring of a diverse pool of high-quality adjunct faculty for course development and teaching roles, and conduct regular evaluations of faculty performance. Collaborate with program staff to ensure a comprehensive and effective orientation process for all new faculty members. Mentor new faculty members as well as those who need or request guidance.
* Resolve Academic Issues: Address and resolve complex problems related to teaching, classroom management, course design, course materials, exams, academic dishonesty, and adherence to University policy.
* Real Estate Program Leadership: In collaboration with the Construction Management Faculty Director, manage the Real Estate Development and Management minor and certificate program.
* Lead the annual assessment of learning outcomes: In collaboration with the Director of Undergraduate Programs, lead the identification, collection, and analysis of student learning outcomes for the ABUS certificate as well as ABUS courses required in other CCAPS undergraduate majors,
* Evaluate Transfer Equivalencies: Evaluate and approve transfer course equivalencies and substitutions for students, ensuring academic rigor and consistency with program standards.
* Conduct Course Reviews: Periodically review existing courses with faculty to ensure currency, alignment with University policies, and adherence to effective teaching and learning practices.
* Facilitate Faculty Meetings: Plan, organize, and chair semesterly faculty meetings to foster communication, collaboration, and shared governance
within the program.

External Engagement/Industry and Community Outreach (10%)
* Program Representation: Act as a primary representative for the program to students, faculty, and key community partners, promoting its value and mission.
* University Liaison: Serve as a key liaison with related academic programs and departments across the wider University of Minnesota system, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* Master's degree in a business-related discipline from an accredited institution.

* At least 10 years of professional experience in a relevant field, demonstrating mastery of evolving trends and practices.

* Experience working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

* Experience building and leading a diverse team.

* Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

* Demonstrated knowledge and skill in inclusive excellence principles in higher education and/or the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

* Terminal degree in a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

* 12+ years of professional experience in relevant academic or professional fields.

* Five years of leadership experience in relevant professional or academic context.

* Two years of postsecondary teaching experience.

* Experience evaluating and developing curricula, including for the online environment.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $23,750 - $55,000; depending percent appointment, education/qualifications/experience.
